  1. 1. Generation of midbrain dopaminergic neurons in vivo and in vitro: the role of Neurogenin2

    Author : Elin Andersson; Neurobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; cell replacement; Parkinson?s; dopamine; neuronal specification; development; mesencephalon; TH; neuronal differentiation; proneural genes; transcription factors; bHLH; neurospheres; stem cell; progenitor cell;

    Abstract : Parkinsons disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder where dopaminergic neurons of the substantia nigra (SNc) in the mesencephalon are progressively eliminated. The ensuing loss of dopaminergic innervation of the basal ganglia manifests itself as severe motor deficits in PD patients. READ MORE

    Abstract : Abstract GENETICS OF PARKINSON’S DISEASE - WITH FOCUS ON GENES OF RELEVANCE FOR INFLAMMATION AND DOPAMINE NEURON DEVELOPMENT Introduction: The risk to be affected by Parkinson’s disease (PD) is considered to be influenced by genetic factors. In some rare cases of familial PD, mutations in some specific genes are known to cause the disease, but in the more common sporadic form of PD the causes are probably environmental factors interacting with genetic vulnerability. 3. 3. GDNF gene delivery in an animal model of Parkinson's disease. Long-term effects on intact, injured and transplanted dopamine neurons using lentiviral gene transfer

    Author : Biljana Georgievska; Neurobiologi; []

    Abstract : Parkinson's disease is characterized by a progressive degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra, leading to a loss of dopamine in the target structure striatum and development of motor symptoms, such as bradykinesia, rigidity and tremor. New experimental treatment strategies for Parkinson's disease are aimed at either preventing the degeneration of the dopaminergic neurons, or at restoring dopamine in the striatum by fetal dopaminergic transplants. 4. 4. The role of Lmx1a and Lmx1b in regulating mesencephalon development and dopamine neuron specification

    Author : Qiaolin Deng; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : One of the most challenging questions in developmental biology is how neurons are specified, acquire their distinct characteristics and find their correct innervations to form functional circuits. The development of different subsets of neurons involves the expression of a program intrinsic to each cell type and the response to extrinsic environmental influences represented by soluble factors. 5. 5. Regulation of midbrain dopaminergic neuron development by Wnts, sFRPs and bHLH proteins

    Author : Julianna M V Kele-Olovsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic neurodegenerative disorder. The main pathology is characterized by progressive degeneration of the dopaminergic (DA) neurons of the substantia nigra leading to loss of striatal dopamine innervation. The knowledge about the fundamental mechanisms behind the degenerative process has been limited. READ MORE
