  1. 1. Migration in anadromous brown trout

    Author : David Aldvén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Downstream migration; Temperature; Discharge; Genetics; Growth rate; Climate change; Salmo trutta; Salmo salar; Sea trout; Salmon; Biology; Ecology;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the anadromous migration of brown trout (Salmo trutta) with the overall aim to improve stock management within the region. Several field studies were conducted in different streams and coastal areas on the west coast of Sweden specifically aimed to evaluate environmental triggers for migration (Paper I), migration pathways and strategies (Paper III and IV) as well as the genetic differentiation of anadromous populations of brown trout (Paper V). 2. 2. Downstream migration of salmonids in regulated rivers : Non-conventional methods for fish diversion

    Author : Johan Leander; Jonatan Klaminder; Micael Jonsson; Gustav Hellström; Paul Kemp; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fish migration; Fish passage; Fish guidance; Hydropower; Atlantic salmon; Brown trout; Bubble barrier; Non-physical barrier;

    Abstract : Passages through hydropower plants can be fatal for downstream migrating salmonids (Salmo spp.). This is particularly true for large adults that are returning to the ocean after spawning. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mental health after migration to Sweden : The role of the social determinants of health

    Author : Helena Honkaniemi; Mikael Rostila; Sol Pía Juárez; Srinivasa Vittal Katikireddi; Seeromanie Harding; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mental health; migration; integration; social welfare policy; social determinants of health; survey data; register data; observational design; quasi-experimental design; systematic review; Public Health Sciences; folkhälsovetenskap;

    Abstract : Migrants often experience worse mental health after migration than natives in Sweden. Using survey, register and peer-reviewed published data, the five studies of this thesis explored the mental health variation of different migrant groups settled in Sweden, including by the timing of migration, level of integration and region of origin. 4. 4. Neural Stem Cell Differentiation and Migration

    Author : Anna Erlandsson; Karin Forsberg-Nilsson; Bengt Westermark; Christer Betsholtz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; CNS; stem cells; neuron; PDGF; SCF; differentiation; migration; ERK; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin; Medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Neural stem cells are the precursors of neurons, astrocytes and oligodendrocytes. During neural development, the division of stem cells takes place close to the lumen of the neural tube, after which they migrate to their final positions within the central nervous system (CNS). 5. 5. Atlantic salmon in regulated rivers : Migration, dam passage, and fish behavior

    Author : Daniel Nyqvist; Larry Greenberg; Theodore Castro-Santos; Olle Calles; Scott Hinch; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fish migration; fish passage; downstream migration; kelt; smolt; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Hydropower dams block migration routes and disrupt longitudinal connectivity in rivers, thereby posing a threat to migratory fish species. Various fish passage solutions have been implemented to improve connectivity with varying success. READ MORE
