  1. 1. Drip Sealing Grouting of Tunnels in Crystalline Rock: Conceptualisation and Technical Strategies

    Author : Christian Butron; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; icicle formation; drip sealing; unsaturated flow; rock fracture; dripping.; channels; crystalline rock; design; Grouting; ice growth; evaluation;

    Abstract : A conceptual model of the groundwater hydraulic conditions around the tunnel contour in ancient brittle crystalline rocks has been developed and verified. The general aim has been to reach an understanding of the groundwater conditions in and close to the tunnel roof where dripping takes place and to propose technical and practical strategies for waterproofing. 2. 2. Combustion dynamics and melt dripping of ethylene-acrylate copolyer composites

    Author : Roland H. Krämer; Ulf W. Gedde; Mats Jonsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; methacrylic acid; ethylene; calcium carbonate; ionomer; nanoparticles; intumescence; halogen-free; flame retardant; melt dripping; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : The degradation and combustion of blends of ethylene-acryalte copolymer with calcium carbonate and silicone were studied by a combination of flammability tests, in-situ measurements and analytical experiments. Compounds of poly(ethylene-co-methacrylic acid) blended with precipitated calcium carbonate nanoparticles were prepared. READ MORE

  3. 3. Melt flow and surface stability effects on polymer flammability : A study on polystyrene, flexible polyurethane foam and polyolefin composites

    Author : Roland H. Krämer; Ulf W. Gedde; Norman C. Billingham; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Melt; flow; dripping; collapse; combustion; pool fire; feed‐back; gasification; heat release; flammability; nanocomposites; molar mass; intumescence; polyurethane; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Abstract : Our ability to accurately determine the flammability properties of polymers is hampered bythe erratic effects of deformation and liquid flow that occur during polymer combustion.This study aims to improve the understanding of such effects at several levels: The often obvious impact of melt flow on standardized flammability test methods forelectrical appliances is described to identify the need and to motivate others to worktowards an improved material characterization. 4. 4. Improved Flame Retardant Properties of a Halogen-Free Material for Cable Applications

    Author : Linus Karlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Flame Retardant; Melt Viscosity; Silicone Elastomer; Ethylene-Acrylate Copolymer; Calcium Carbonate;

    Abstract : Due to the large amount of electric equipment in our surroundings, fire safety of cable materials is becoming increasingly important. Because of environmental and health issues, much focus is on development of halogen-free materials. In this thesis, a halogen-free flame retardant material named Casico™ is studied. READ MORE

  5. 5. Polyolefin Flame Retardant Cable Materials - Effect of Additives and Copolymer Structure

    Author : Linus Karlsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Calcium Carbonate; Flame Retardant; Silicone Elastomer; Melt Viscosity; Ethylene-Acrylate Copolymer;

    Abstract : Fire safety of cables is becoming increasingly important as the use of electrical equipment steadily increases. Due to their excellent dielectric properties, polyolefin materials are widely used as insulating materials for cables. However, polyolefins are inherently flammable and need to be protected to meet the requirements on flame retardancy. READ MORE
