1. Pulmonary Drug Absorption : In vitro and in vivo investigations of drug absorption across the lung barrier and its relation to drug physicochemical properties
Abstract : Although, pulmonary drug delivery is a well established means for targeting of drugs to the lungs for the treatment of respiratory diseases as well as for the systemic delivery of volatile anesthetic agents, drug absorption kinetics in the lung have not been subjected to extensive research. The main objective of this thesis was to investigate drug absorption characteristics of the lung barrier, using the isolated and perfused rat lung model and in vivo pharmacokinetic studies in rats. 2. Characterization of parameters influencing intracellular bioavailability and prediction of intracellular drug exposure
Abstract : This thesis work investigates factors influencing intracellular drug disposition. An experimental method for measurement of intracellular bioavailability (Fic), was used throughout. Fic is defined as the ratio between the unbound drug concentration inside the cell and the compound concentration in the cell exterior. READ MORE

3. Proteomics-informed analysis of drug disposition in the human liver and small intestine
Abstract : Orally administered drugs are absorbed in the intestine and generally metabolized in the liver. Therefore, understanding factors determining drug distribution and elimination in these tissues is important. READ MORE

4. Piperaquine - Bioanalys, drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics
Abstract : Malaria is one of the most abundant parasitic diseases in the world affecting many of the poorest economies. The estimated prevalence is 300 to 700 million clinical episodes each year with up to 3 million deaths. READ MORE

5. Artificial receptors: New opportunities for the exploitation of molecularly imprinted polymers
Abstract : Molecular imprinting, method for creating artificial receptors that are mimics of biological antibodies and receptors, is based on the concept of creating substrate-specific recognition sites in polymeric matrices by means of template polymerisation. The polymeric receptors produced display favourable binding characteristics, such as high affinity and specificity towards the substrate molecules. READ MORE
