1. Interactions between Wood Polymers in Wood Cell Walls and Cellulose/Hemicellulose Biocomposites
Abstract : A wood fibre is a complex multi component biocomposite that is hierarchically organised. The arrangement of a wood fibre on the ultrastructural level is highlycontrolled by the interactions between the main structural polymers, i.e. cellulose, various hemicelluloses and lignin, as well as in some parts also pectin and protein. 2. Thin water and ice films on minerals : a molecular level study
Abstract : Minerals in Earth’s crust and suspended in the atmosphere form water or ice films as thin as a few nanometers to as thick as a few micrometers, and beyond. Mineral-bound water and ice films in terrestrial systems (e.g. READ MORE

3. Drugs and polymers in dissolving solid dispersions : NMR imaging and spectroscopy
Abstract : The number of poorly water-soluble drug substances in the pharmaceutical pipeline is increasing, and thereby also the need to design effective drug delivery systems providing high bioavailability. One favourable formulation approach is preparation of solid dispersions, where dispersing a poorly water-soluble drug in a water-soluble polymer matrix improves the dissolution behaviour and the bioavailability of the drug. 4. Partial Oxidation of Methane over Functionalised Zeolites and Zeotypes
Abstract : Partial oxidation of methane to methanol is an industrially important process that allows natural gas and biogas to be utilised for methanol-based production of chemicals or converted to liquid methanol fuel, which make transportation more facile. In this thesis, the activity for partial oxidation of methane to methanol over copper functionalised zeolites and silica supported copper is investigated using a three-step quasi-catalytic approach including catalyst activation, methane reaction and methanol extraction by water. 5. Influence of waxes on bitumen and asphalt concrete mixture performance
Abstract : This doctoral thesis consists of a literature review, presented in two papers, and another six papers describing experimental studies of the influence of different kinds of wax and polyphosporic acid on bitumen and asphalt concrete mixture properties. The literature review should give an extensive description of the field of knowledge concerning wax in bitumen. READ MORE
