  1. 1. Towards Model-Based Condition Monitoring of Railway Switches and Crossings

    Author : Marko Milosevic; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sleeper void; Switches crossings; condition indicators; embedded sleeper accelerometer; multi-body simulations; dynamic vehicle–track interaction; MBS; S C; wheel–rail contact forces; condition monitoring; crossing rail geometry; displacement reconstruction.; model calibration;

    Abstract : Railway switches and crossings (S&C, turnouts) connect different track sections and create a railway network by allowing for trains to change between tracks. This functionality comes at a cost as the load-inducing rail discontinuities in the switch and crossing panels cause much higher degradation rates for S&C compared to regular plain line track. 2. 2. The Knowledge Production Function : Evidence from New Micro Data

    Author : Hans Lööf; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Knowledge capital; performance heterogeneity; innovation; manufacturing; srvices; Community Innovation Survey; cross-country comparisons; outsosurcing; capital structure; dynamic adjustment; panel data; Industrial engineering and economy; Industriell teknik och ekonomi;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis consists of five self-contained essays.Common themes that unify the essays are the conditions for innovative engagements and the effort to endogenize innovations into the explanation of profitability, productivity and growthin manufacturing and service production. 3. 3. Non-linear dynamic modelling for panel data in the social sciences

    Author : Shyam Ranganathan; David JT Sumpter; Oliver Johnson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Dynamical systems; stochastic models; Bayesian; panel data; social sciences; development; Mathematics with specialization in Applied Mathematics; Matematik med inriktning mot tillämpad matematik;

    Abstract : Non-linearities and dynamic interactions between state variables are characteristic of complex social systems and processes. In this thesis, we present a new methodology to model these non-linearities and interactions from the large panel datasets available for some of these systems. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dynamic Characteristics of Floating Breakwaters

    Author : Aurora Xiaomeng Lei; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; floating breakwaters; couplings joints ; dynamic cables; dynamic response; line tension; wave attenuation; wave reflection;

    Abstract : The dynamic behaviour of interconnected floating breakwaters has been studied theoretically and experimentally. For this type of shore-protection system, problems that must be dealt with include wave loads on the breakwaters caused by the interaction between the bodies and the waves, motions of the moored breakwaters caused by the waves, changed wave fields in front of and behind the breakwaters, and forces on the mooring cables and in interconnections between breakwater units. 5. 5. Likelihood-Based Panel Unit Root Tests for Factor Models

    Author : Xingwu Zhou; Johan Lyhagen; Joakim Westerlund; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Panel unit root; Exact factor model; Dynamic factor model; Maximum likelihood; Principal components; Lagrange multiplier;

    Abstract : The thesis consists of four papers that address likelihood-based unit root tests for panel data with cross-sectional dependence arising from common factors.In the first three papers, we derive Lagrange multiplier (LM)-type tests for common and idiosyncratic unit roots in the exact factor models based on the likelihood function of the differenced data.
