  1. 1. Designing dynamic textile patterns

    Author : Linda Worbin; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; smart textiles; textile design; dynamic textile patterns;

    Abstract : Designing Dynamic Textile Patterns Progress in chemistry, fibres and polymers technology provides textile designers with new expressive materials, making it possible to design dynamic textile patterns, where several different expressions are inherent in the same textile, textiles that, for example, could alternate between a striped and checkered pattern. Textiles are traditionally designed and produced to keep a given, static expression during their life cycle; a striped pattern is supposed to keep its stripes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Dynamic Textile Patterns: designing with smart textiles

    Author : Linda Worbin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Textile design; dynamic textile pattern; smart textile; practice-based design research; thermo-chromic; interaction design; experimental design; electroluminescent;

    Abstract : New smart textile materials have been investigated and show that today`s textile patterns can be designed to offer more than traditional textile patterns do. The prototypes of dynamic textile patterns designed in this thesis are brought about in a new design process that takes smart textile materials into consideration. READ MORE

  3. 3. The Language of Textiles : Description and Judgement on Textile Pattern Composition

    Author : Siri Homlong; Christina Fjellström; Edith Skjeggestad; Lillemor Abrahamsson; Liv Merete Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Arts and literature; Textile; Pattern; Design; Amish; Quilt; Aesthetic Qualities; Repertory grid method; Natural Color System; Sloyd; Implicit knowledge; Communication; Structure of attention; Estetiska ämnen;

    Abstract : The present study concerns ways to describe, judge and discuss aesthetic qualities of designed textile patterns. Specific aims were to study how colours and compositions used in Old Amish Quilts can be systematically described, to study how simple and complex patterns in printed textile fabrics are perceived and expressed verbally and to study judgements, concepts and values in relation to designed textile patterns as expressed by schoolchildren, consumers, teachers of textile handicraft and designers. 4. 4. Creating diverse colour-changing effects on textiles

    Author : Marjan Kooroshnia; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; dynamic textile patterns; leuco dye-based thermochromic inks; textile design; Smart textiles; Textiles and Fashion General ; Textil och mode generell ;

    Abstract : With the technological progress of materials science, the palette of colours with which to print on textiles has expanded beyond those with previously known properties and expressions to a new generation, with more advanced functionality and expressive properties. This new range of colours is characterised by their ability when printed on textiles to change colour in relation to external factors and internal programmes; for example, leuco dye-based thermochromic inks generally change colour in response to temperature fluctuations. 5. 5. Textile Influence : exploring the relationship between textiles and products in the design process

    Author : Linnéa Nilsson; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Smart textiles; textile print; thermo chromic print; dynamic patterns; material composites; complexity; design practice; design tools; Textiles and Fashion Design ; Textil och mode konstnärlig ;

    Abstract : Textile materials and textile design are a part of countless products in our surroundings,as well as diverse design fields and industries, each of which has very different materialtraditions and working methods. The aim of this thesis is to add to our understandingof the relationship between textiles and products in the design process, and to explorehow textiles enter and influence product design processes and how products functionin textile design processes.
