  1. 1. Molecular analysis of transcription factors in uropathogenic E. coli adhesin operons

    Author : Stina Lindberg; Bernt Eric Uhlin; Åsa Sjöling; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; UPEC; E. coli; F1C; P fimbriae; cross-talk; FocB; PapB; crystal structure; OMVs; Medical microbiology; Medicinsk mikrobiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The main causative agent of human urinary tract infections is the uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) pathotype. It may cause disease due to its ability to express a number of bacterial virulence factors. Fimbrial adhesins are particularly important for the initial establishment of infection in the urinary tract. READ MORE

  2. 2. Protein production in the E. coli cell envelope

    Author : Thomas Baumgarten; Jan-Willem de Gier; Dirk-Jan Scheffers; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; E. coli; protein biogenesis; recombinant proteins; membrane proteins; secretory proteins; protein displays; outer membrane vesicles; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Proteins fulfil essential functions in every cell and malfunctioning proteins are often the cause of diseases. On the other hand, proteins like antibody fragments or hormones can be used to treat diseases. READ MORE

  3. 3. Epidemiology of ESBL-producing E. coli with special reference to outbreak detection

    Author : Lisa Helldal; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; E. coli; epidemiology; surveillance;

    Abstract : Multidrug resistant bacteria, particularly extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Enterobacteriaceae (EPE), are becoming a major health concern. ESBL-producing Escherichia coli (ESBL-E. coli) is the most prevalent type. ESBL-genes are carried on plasmids, often by bacteria belonging to clones with properties that facilitate transmission. 4. 4. Bacterial colonization of the neonatal bowel and ileal pouch with focus on E. coli

    Author : Anna Östblom; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; E. coli; persistens; intestinal microbiota; colonization; ileal pouch; persistence; virulence factor genes;

    Abstract : The colonic microbiota is a source of inflammatogenic and potentially pathogenic bacteria, but also a source of immune maturation signals to the infant. Here, we have investigated the normal colonic microbiota, with focus on E. coli in Swedish and Pakistani newborn infants, as well as the microbiota of the ileo-anal pouch in colectomized patients. 5. 5. Synthesis and functionalization of ring-fused 2-pyridones : Targeting pili formation in E. coli

    Author : Nils Pemberton; Fredrik Almqvist; Oliver Kappe; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 2-pyridone; acylketene; antibacterial; biofilm inhibitor; Mannich; Micro-wave-assisted chemistry; peptidomimetic; virulence.; Organic synthesis; Organisk syntes;

    Abstract : Bicyclic dihydrothiazolo fused 2-pyridones have been studied as a new class of antibacterial agents, termed pilicides, that target the formation of adhesive bacterial surface organelles (pili) in pathogenic bacteria. Synthetic methods to further functionalize the bicyclic 2-pyridone scaffold have been developed in order to increase water-solubility and thereby facilitate biological evalua-tions. READ MORE
