1. Seismic tomography : Inversion for P- and S-wave velocities
Abstract : Seismology is undoubtedly the most powerful method for determining the structure of the Earth below the deepest borehole. This thesis describes the, use of seismic signals from both man-made and earthquake sources to model seismic velocities within a volume of the Earth. READ MORE

2. Statistical Seismology Studies in Central America : b-value, seismic hazard and seismic quiescence
Abstract : The present thesis collects results of research applying theory and methods of statistical seismology to the seismicity of Central America, a region with a complex tectonic setting controlled by the interaction of four major plates, namely the Caribbean, Cocos, Nazca and North American plates.Three different earthquake catalogues were used for studies focused on stress in a tectonic volume, seismic hazard maps and seismicity patterns (precursors), covering the region 94ºW to 81ºW and 5ºN to 20ºN. 3. Location and Relocation of Seismic Sources
Abstract : This dissertation is a comprehensive summary of four papers on the development and application of new strategies for locating tremor and relocating events in earthquake catalogs. In the first paper, two new strategies for relocating events in a catalog are introduced. READ MORE

4. Earthquake Sources and Hazard in northern Central America
Abstract : Northern Central America is a tectonically complex zone defined by its borders with Cocos and North America plates. The Middle America subduction zone and the strike-slip motion along the North America-Caribbean plate boundary, in that order, control most of its deformation. READ MORE

5. Seismic high-frequency content loads on structures and components within nuclear facilities
Abstract : Sweden is generally considered to be a low seismicity area, but for structures within nuclear power facilities, the safety level demand with respect to seismic events are high and thus, these structures are required to be earthquake-resistant. The seismic hazard is here primarily considered to be associated with near-field earthquakes. READ MORE
