  1. 1. Expression and function of vascular estrogen receptors alpha and beta

    Author : Min Liang; Kärlfysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetologi; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; ubiquitin-proteasome pathway; MIP-2; MCP-1; iNOS; estrogen receptor knockout; estrogen receptor; aorta; estrogen;

    Abstract : Estrogen receptors (ER) are expressed not only in classical target organs for estrogen like breast and uterus, but also in male reproductive system as well as in non-reproductive organs such as brain, liver and bone. The functions of ER are quite well known in reproductive organs but less information is available regarding their function in vascular tissue. READ MORE

  2. 2. Differentiation of Brain and Reproductive Organs in Birds : Effects of Environmental Contaminants

    Author : Jeanette Axelsson; Björn Brunström; Björn Munro-Jenssen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Zoophysiology; Bird; endocrine disruption; estrogen receptor; methoxychlor; UV-filter; sexual behavior; ovotestis; Zoofysiologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : The first objective of this thesis was to investigate effects of endocrine disruptors on the developing brain and gonads of bird embryos. The substances studied were the insecticide methoxychlor, and nine UV-filters (3-benzylidene camphor (3BC), 4 methyl benzylidene camphor (4MBC), benzophenone (BP) 1,2 and 3, 4 hydroxy benzophenone (4 HB), 4 dihydroxy benzophenone (4DHB), benzyl salicylate (BS), and ethyl-4-aminobenzoate Et-PABA)), commonly used in cosmetic products. 3. 3. Functional importance of estrogen receptors in the periodontium

    Author : Daniel Nebel; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Estrogen; Estrogen receptors; LPS; Periodontium; PDL cells; Gingival epithelial cells;

    Abstract : Östrogen är ett kvinnligt könshormon som även har andra effekter. Östrogen verkar i cellkärnan genom att binda till en östrogenreceptor (ER), som finns i två olika typer, ERα och ERβ. Parodontit (tandlossning) är en inflammationssjukdom som drabbar tandens fäste som svar på bakterier som normalt finns i munhålan. READ MORE

  4. 4. Enzymatic Regulation of Steroidogenesis and Nuclear Receptor Activation : Special Focus on Vitamin D and Sex Hormones

    Author : Johan Lundqvist; Kjell Wikvall; Maria Norlin; Magnus Ingelman-Sundberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adrenal steroidogenesis; CYP7B1; vitamin D; calcitriol; enzymatic regulation; transcriptional regulation; CYP21A2; aromatase; sex hormone; estrogen; androgen; nuclear receptor; Pharmaceutical biochemistry; Farmaceutisk biokemi; Farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Enzyme-catalyzed reactions are important to regulate steroidogenesis and nuclear receptor activation. The present investigation examines the role of steroid metabolism catalyzed by CYP7B1 for regulation of hormone receptor activation and the effects of vitamin D on enzymatic regulation of steroidogenesis. 5. 5. Effect of estrogen on longitudinal bone growth

    Author : Andrei S Chagin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Growth plate; chondrocytes; estrogen receptors; androgen; tamoxifen.;

    Abstract : Longitudinal bone growth occurs at the growth plate, a thin layer of cartilage between the epiphysis and the metaphysis of long bones. In the growth plate resting chondrocytes proliferate, differentiate into a hypertrophic form, and finally become terminal hypertrophic chondrocytes before giving rise to bone. READ MORE
