  1. 1. Novel findings on cellular trafficking and targeting for granule storage of neutrophil elastase, a multifunctional effector molecule of innate immunity

    Author : Linda Källquist; Avdelningen för hematologi och transfusionsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hematopoietic cell; CD63; neutrophil elastase; targeting; trafficking; intracellular sorting; neutrophil; azurophil granule;

    Abstract : Neutrophil elastase (NE) has important roles in innate immunity, killing pathogens and controlling the immune response; but how NE is targeted to developing granules is not understood. Therefore, the aim of this thesis was to investigate the sorting of NE. READ MORE

  2. 2. Timing and targeting of Type III secretion translocation of virulence effectors in Yersinia

    Author : Sofie Ekestubbe; Åke Forsberg; Roland Rosqvist; Maria Fällman; Kurt Schesser; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Type III secretion system; virulence; translocation; Yersinia pseudotuberculosis; LcrV; YopN; effector targeting; phagocytosis inhibition; YopH; in vivo infection;

    Abstract : The Type III secretion system (T3SS) is an important virulence mechanism that allows pathogenic bacteria to translocate virulence effectors directly into the cytoplasm of eukaryotic host cells to manipulate the host cells in favor of the pathogen. Enteropathogenic Yersinia pseudotuberculosis use a T3SS to translocate effectors, Yops, that prevent phagocytosis by immune cells, and is largely dependent on it to establish and sustain an infection in the lymphoid tissues of a mammalian host. 3. 3. CNS-Targeted Cell Therapy for Multiple Sclerosis

    Author : Moa Fransson; Angelica Loskog; Tomas Olsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CAR; Targeting; Suppressive cells; Foxp3; Tregs; Clinical immunology; Klinisk immunologi; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disorder of the central nervous system (CNS). In the current thesis, we have preformed an immunological investigation of patients with MS and developed an immunosuppressive cell therapy that could be beneficial for these patients. READ MORE

  4. 4. Regulation of cytotoxic lymphocyte effector functions

    Author : Giovanna Perinetti Casoni; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Studies of patients with inborn errors of immunity provide an important opportunity to understand the human immune system in a natural context. The articles in this thesis are a compilation of such investigations. READ MORE

  5. 5. Exploiting nucleotide metabolism to improve cancer therapy : by targeting dUTPase, dCTPase and NUDT15

    Author : Anna Hagenkort; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Synthetic nucleobase- and nucleoside-analogs have stood the test of time and remain a cornerstone in the treatment regimen against various forms of cancer. Due to their resemblance to endogenous nucleotides these antimetabolites interfere with cellular pathways, including nucleotide metabolism, as well as DNA and RNA synthesis. READ MORE
