  1. 1. Modelling and Experimental Verification of Direct Drive Wave Energy Conversion : Buoy-Generator Dynamics

    Author : Mikael Eriksson; Mats Leijon; Jan Isberg; Arne Wolfbrandt; Kim Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Engineering physics; Wave energy; Potential wave theory; Linear generator; Simulations; Experiments; Point absorber; FEM; Equivalent circuit theory; Teknisk fysik; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : This thesis is focused on development of models and modelling of a wave energy converter in operation. Through the thesis linear potential wave theory has been used to describe the wave-buoy interaction. The differences lie in the generator models, in the simplest model the generator is a mechanical damper characterized by a damping factor. READ MORE

  2. 2. Electric Energy Conversion Systems : Wave Energy and Hydropower

    Author : Karin Thorburn; Mats Leijon; Petra Lundström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Engineering physics; Ocean wave power; renewable energy; linear generator; farm simulation; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : Electric energy conversion is an important issue in today's society as our daily lives largely depend on the supplies of energy. Two energy sources are studied for conversion in the present thesis, ocean waves and hydropower. The work focuses on the generator and the transmission of its output to the electric grid. READ MORE

  3. 3. Prediction of Cooling Air Flow in Electric Generators

    Author : Pirooz Moradnia; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; CFD; Multiple Reference Frame; PIV; Total Pressure Measurements; Electric Generator; Experimental Measurements; 5-hole Pressure Probe Measurements; Flow Prediction; OpenFOAM;

    Abstract : The cooling air flow in hydro power electric generators is investigated experimentally and numerically. A fully predictive numerical approach is presented and validated, in which the inlet and outlet boundaries are eliminated from the computational domain. READ MORE

  4. 4. Electric Power Generation and Storage Using a High Voltage Approach

    Author : Björn Bolund; Mats Leijon; Hans Bernhoff; Tore Undeland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Engineering physics; Flywheel; Generation; Generator; High Voltage; Power flow; Poynting; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : Production and consumption of electricity have grown enormously during the last century. No mater what the primary source of energy is, almost all generation of electricity comes from conversion of a rotational movement in a generator. The aim of this thesis is to see how high voltage technology influence production and storage of electricity. READ MORE

  5. 5. Wave Energy Conversion : Linear Synchronous Permanent Magnet Generator

    Author : Oskar Danielsson; Mats Leijon; Göran Engdahl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Engineering physics; Finite element method; linear synchronous generator; longitudinal end effect; permanent magnet; point absorber; offshore testing; wave power; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis studies the electric aspects of a linear synchronous permanent magnet generator. The generator is designed for use in a wave energy converter, which determines the fundamental requirements of the generator. The electromagnetic properties of the generator are investigated with a finite element based simulation tool. READ MORE
