1. Towards the design of flexibility management in smart grids : A techno-institutional perspective
Abstract : The European policy focus on smart grids implies their development as an indispensable part of the future power system. However, the definition of a smart grid is broad and vague, and the actual implementation of a smart grid can differ significantly, depending on the stakeholders involved. READ MORE

2. Strategies, Methods and Tools for Solving Long-term Transmission Expansion Planning in Large-scale Power Systems
Abstract : Driven by a number of factors, the electric power industry is expected to undergo a paradigm shift with a considerably increased level of variable energy sources. A significant integration of such sources requires heavy transmission investments over geographically wide and large-scale networks. READ MORE

3. Integrated Community Energy Systems
Abstract : Energy systems across the globe are going through a radical transformation as a result of technological and institutional changes, depletion of fossil fuel resources, and climate change. Accordingly, local energy initiatives are emerging and increasing number of the business models are focusing on the end-users. READ MORE

4. On Gate Drivers for MOS-Controlled Power Devices and dv-dt Filters for Train Traction Converters
Abstract : In this thesis, low-loss gate-drive solutions and a proposed dv/dt-filter have been investigated with focus on train traction converters with dv/dt constraints.By using the silicon carbide (SiC) junction field-effect transistor (JFET), the switching losses can be significantly reduced compared to the commonly used insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT), but complex gate-driver solutions are required for high utilization in terms of loss reduction. 5. Robotic Friction Stir Welding for Flexible Production
Abstract : Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a modern welding process that joins materials by frictional heat, generated by a rotating tool. Unlike other welding processes, the material never melts, which is beneficial for the weld properties. READ MORE
