  1. 1. End stage renal disease in type 1 diabetes : time trends and risk factors

    Author : Cecilia Toppe; Anna Möllsten; Gisela Dahlquist; Torild Skrivarhaug; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; End stage renal disease; renal replacement therapy; type 1 diabetes; diabetes nephropathy; socioeconomy and epidemiology; epidemiologi; Epidemiology; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Abstract : Background and aims: Sweden has a high incidence of type 1 diabetes (T1D) and the incidence is increasing worldwide. The incidence is now twice as high as when the registration of childhood onset T1D in Sweden started in 1977. One of the major risk factors for developing late complications such as renal failure (ESRD) is duration of T1D. READ MORE

  2. 2. End-stage renal disease patients and their spouses : Coping, perceived consequences, and health-related quality of life

    Author : Ragny Lindqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Coping; health-related quality of life; perceived consequences; perceived efficiency; BSRD patients; spouses; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; omvårdnadsforskning med medicinsk inriktning; Caring Sciences;

    Abstract : The general aim was to study use and efficiency of coping strategies to handle problems occasioned by illness and treatment among three groups of end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients (n=86) and their spouses (n=55). A sample of the Swedish population (n=519) was studied as a reference. READ MORE

  3. 3. Lupus Nephritis – Genetic Impact on Clinical Phenotypes, Disease Severity and Renal Outcome

    Abstract : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune inflammatory disease that can affect every organ system. Lupus nephritis (LN) is one of the more serious SLE manifestations. Whilst the genetic background of SLE has been thoroughly investigated, less is known about the background of LN. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hyperparathyroidism and parathyroidectomy in patients on renal replacement therapy

    Abstract : Background. Secondary hyperparathyroidism (sHPT) is characterized by over function of the parathyroid glands and disturbances in mineral metabolism as a result of renal failure. It is common among patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and it often persists after successful renal transplantation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Renal Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury in Diabetes : Experimental Studies in the Rat

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the leading causes of end stage renal failure. An increased susceptibility to renal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R)-injury was found in DM rats. Unilateral renal ischemia for as short as 20 minutes led to an irreversible progressive injury in DM kidneys, whereas the injury in non-DM kidneys was almost reversible. READ MORE
