  1. 1. Human Embryonic Stem Cells - Constitutive Gene Expression and Differentiation Towards Definitive Endoderm and Posterior Foregut Endoderm

    Author : Karin Norrman; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human embryonic stem cells; diabetes; pancreas; definitive endoderm; foregut endoderm; pancreatic endoderm; constitutive promoter; ACTB; EF1alpha; CMV; PGK; UbC;

    Abstract : Abstract More than 300 million people are suffering from diabetes worldwide and the numbers of diabetic patients are increasing. Today´s treatments mainly rely on daily insulin injections. This help people to control blood glucose levels but still many patients suffer from the many complications associated with diabetes. 2. 2. Midgut and muscle development in Drosophila melanogaster

    Author : Margret Shirinian; Ruth Palmer; Anne Uve; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Drosophila; visceral mesoderm; endoderm; somatic muscles; Alk; C3G; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The fully developed and functional Drosophila midgut comprises two layers, the visceral mesoderm and the endoderm. The visceral muscle of the midgut is formed by the fusion of founder cells with fusion competent cells to form the muscle syncytia. READ MORE

  3. 3. Spleno-pancreatic development assessed by 3D molecular imaging

    Author : Amir Asayesh; Ulf Ahlgren; Beatriz Sosa-Pineda; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Cell biology; Spleen; Pancreas; Imaging; Development; Cellbiologi; miljömedicinsk utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental Biology;

    Abstract : The development of different organs and tissues along the gastrointestinal tract, including the pancreas, depends on signalling between the endoderm and the adjacent mesenchyme. The Nkx gene Bapx1 is involved in spatial control of organ-positioning in the spleno-pancreatic region, and deficiency in this gene results in unacceptable proximity of the splenic mesenchyme to the pancreas. 4. 4. The Role of the SHB Adapter Protein in Cell Differentiation and Development

    Author : Vitezslav Kriz; Michael Welsh; Urban Lendahl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Cell biology; SHB; transgene; ES cells; cavitation; knockout; mouse; vasculogenesis; hematopoiesis; endoderm; mesoderm; malformation; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : The present study was conducted in order to assess a role of the SH2 domain-containing adapter protein SHB in development and cell differentiation.Embryonic stem (ES) cells overexpressing SHB and SHB with an inactive SH2 domain (R522K-SHB) were obtained. READ MORE

  5. 5. Investigating the function of the Receptor Tyrosine Kinase ALK during Drosophila melanogaster development

    Author : Christina Lorén; Mike Taylor; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : DAlk; receptor tyrosine kinase; Jeb; visceral muscle fusion; ERK; Drosophila; endoderm; molecular cell biology; molekylär cellbiologi;

    Abstract : The Drosophila melanogaster gene Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase (DAlk) is homologous to mammalian Alk, which is a member of the Alk/Ltk family of receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs). In humans the t(2;5) translocation involving the Alk locus encodes an active form of Alk that is the causative agent in Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (Morris et al., 1994). READ MORE
