1. District heating in future Europe : Modelling expansion potentials and mapping heat synergy regions
Abstract : This thesis presents a set of methodologies and approaches to investigate and determine the extent by which district heating can contribute to improved energy system efficiency and reduced carbon dioxide emissions in future Europe. The main motivation for suggesting large-scale implementation of district heating as a structural energy efficiency measure to obtain these objectives originates essentially in the predicament that a majority of European buildings today remain highly dependent on fossil fuels to provide energy needed for space heating and hot water preparation. 2. Composite Nanostructured Materials for Renewable Energy Applications
Abstract : Diverse sources of energy are becoming increasingly significant in today's world. The most common source of energy today is fossil fuels, such as coal, oil, and gas. While this energy source has many advantages, it also comes with many problems. READ MORE

3. Electronic Structures and Energy Level Alignment in Mesoscopic Solar Cells : A Hard and Soft X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy Study
Abstract : Photoelectron spectroscopy is an experimental method to study the electronic structure in matter. In this thesis, a combination of soft and hard X-ray based photoelectron spectroscopy has been used to obtain atomic level understanding of electronic structures and energy level alignments in mesoscopic solar cells. 5. Graphene Heat Spreaders for Electronics Thermal Management Applications
Abstract : Graphene shows great potential for applications in electronics due to its outstanding physical properties such as extremely high electron mobility, high thermal conductivity, high Young’s modulus and very high surface-to-volume ratio. Among these attractive properties, the high intrinsic thermal conductivity is a critical advantage for the application of graphene in electronics to alleviate heat dissipation problems. READ MORE
