  1. 1. Development of analytical transport methods for biologically optimized light ion therapy

    Author : Johanna Kempe; Anders Brahme; Irena Gudowska; Naruhiri Matsufuji; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Radiotherapy; radiation quality; energy-range relations; light ion transport; pencil beam; Monte Carlo; Physics; Fysik; medicinsk strålningsfysik; Medical Radiation Physics;

    Abstract : A general objective in the treatment of cancer is to eradicate the tumour cells without inducing severe complications in healthy normal tissue. The use of light ions for radiation therapy increases the possibility to deliver tumour suicidal doses with very low probability of normal tissue injury, not least in cases where the target is unresectable, radioresistant and located to near organs at risk. 2. 2. Soft and Hard Mesons in Chiral Perturbation Theory

    Author : Ilaria Jemos; Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with Chiral Perturbation Theory (ChPT), an effective field theory for the strong force used to describe meson interactions. The work done can be split in two parts. The first one is on ChPT in its standard formulation. This theory has been very successful so far in describing low energetic processes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Investigations of Reaction Cross Sections for Protons and 3He

    Author : Mattias Lantz; Anders Ingemarsson; Livius Trache; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; reaction cross section; protons; 3He; experimental method; transmission method; optical model; parametrization; matter distributions; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Abstract : The reaction cross section gives the probability that a particle will undergo a nonelastic process when passing through a nuclear medium. Therefore reaction cross section data are of importance both for theoretical studies and for applications in such diverse fields as medicine, biology, astrophysics and accelerator-driven transmutation of nuclear waste.
