1. Molecular Recognition Mechanisms: Thermodynamics and Polarization Spectroscopy of DNA--Intercalator Complexes
Abstract : Mechanisms for molecular recognition in DNA--intercalator complexes have been investigated by optical spectroscopy. The effect of electrical charge on binding geometry and binding thermodynamics was studied using 2,7-diazapyrene (DAP) and its N-methylated cations DAP+ and DAP2+ as model ligands. READ MORE

2. Thermodynamics of Peptide Nucleic Acid Interactions with DNA
Abstract : Peptide Nucleic Acid (PNA) is a DNA mimic with the natural nucleobases attached to a charge-neutral pseudopeptide backbone. It has remarkably strong and sequence-specific binding affinity to natural nucleic acids (DNA and RNA), mainly attributed to the lack of charge in the PNA backbone. READ MORE

3. Enzyme substrate solvent interactions : a case study on serine hydrolases
Abstract : Reaction rates and selectivities were measured for transacylation of fatty acid esters in solvents catalysed by Candida antarctica lipase B and by cutinase from Humicola insolens. With these enzymes classical water-based enzymology can be expanded to many different solvents allowing large variations in interaction energies between the enzymes, the substrates and the surrounding. 4. Exploring non-covalent interactions between drug-like molecules and the protein acetylcholinesterase
Abstract : The majority of drugs are small organic molecules, so-called ligands, that influence biochemical processes by interacting with proteins. The understanding of how and why they interact and form complexes is therefore a key component for elucidating the mechanism of action of drugs. READ MORE
