  1. 1. Environment-Sensitive Multifunctional Drug Delivery Systems

    Author : Jian Qin; Mamoun Muhammed; Marcus Textor; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Materials chemistry; Materialkemi;

    Abstract : Drug delivery systems (DDS) with multiple functionalities such as environment-sensitive drug release mechanisms and visualization agents have motivated the biomedical community as well as materials chemists for more than a decade. This dissertation is concerned with the development of nanoparticles for multifunctional DDS  to tackle several crucial challenges in these complex systems, including polymeric nanospheres which respond to temperature change, superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles/polymeric composite for magnetic resonance imaging contrast agents and drug carriers, immunoresponse of nanomaterials and injectable magnetic field sensitive ferrogels. 2. 2. Ethical problems in work and working environment contexts

    Author : Anders J. Persson; KTH; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; contract of employment; double standards; drug testing. ethics; ethical justification; exposure; genetic testing; health and safety standards; privacy; surveillance; risks; work; work environment; Philosophy;

    Abstract : This thesis identifies and systematizes two categories ofpractical problems that stem from work and working environmentcontexts: workplace privacy and occupational health risks. Thefocus of the discussion is on ethical justification. READ MORE

  3. 3. Drug-related morbidity and mortality : Pharmacoepidemiological aspects

    Author : Anna K. Jönsson; Staffan Hägg; Johan Ahlner; Henrik Druid; Jörg Mörland; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adverse drug reactions; pharmacoepidemiology; antipsychotics; venous; thromboembolism; warfarin; haemorrhage; intoxication; medico-legal autopsies; mortality; Läkemedelsbiverkningar; farmakoepidemiologi; antipsykotika; venös tromboembolism; warfarin; blödning; intoxikation; rättsmedicinska obduktioner; fatal; Clinical pharmacology; Klinisk farmakologi;

    Abstract : Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) constitute a significant health problem with consequences for the patient as well as for society. Suspected ADRs have been reported to occur in about 2-14% of hospitalised patients. In about 5% of deceased hospitalised patients suspected ADRs may have caused or contributed to the fatal outcome. 4. 4. Biopharmaceutical Evaluation of Intra-arterial Drug-Delivery Systems for Liver Cancer : Investigations in healthy pigs and liver cancer patients

    Author : Elsa Lilienberg; Hans Lennernäs; Erik Sjögren; Niklas Axén; Helen M. Burt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; in vivo release; drug delivery systems; local delivery; drug disposition; doxorubicin; hepatocellular carcinoma; transarterial chemoembolization; transarterial chemotherapy infusion; Pharmaceutical Science; Farmaceutisk vetenskap;

    Abstract : There are currently two types of intra-arterial drug-delivery system (DDS) in clinical use in the palliative treatment of primary liver cancer. The chemotherapeutic drug doxorubicin (DOX) can be formulated into a drug-in-lipiodol emulsion (LIPDOX) or a microparticulate drug-eluting bead system (DEBDOX). READ MORE

  5. 5. Polyamine Pathway as Drug Target against Malaria

    Author : Janina Sprenger; Biogena aminer; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Amino acid insertions; Crystallography; polyamine pathway; drug design; enzyme inhibition; ITC; ligand binding; malaria; Plasmodium falciparum; S-Adenosylmethionine decarboxylase; spermidine synthase.;

    Abstract : Malaria, caused by the protozoan parasite Plasmodium falciparum is responsible for about 600.000 death cases every year. Mainly affected are populations of subtropical countries in Africa and the largest groups of victims are children below the age of 5 years. READ MORE
