  1. 1. Alkaliphilic Bacillus species and an alkaline active lipolytic enzyme

    Author : Virginia Vargas Calle; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biotechnology; soda lakes; alkaliphilic Bacillus sp.; lipolytic enzyme; Bacillus bogoriensis; Bacillus halodurans; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : The Great Rift Valley running through Eastern Africa contains a large number of soda lakes. These unique lakes constitute among the most stable alkaline environments with a dense and varied population of microorganisms. Such microorganisms are invariable alkaliphiles and are considered to be a promising source of enzymes with unique features. READ MORE

  2. 2. Heme A synthase from Bacillus subtilis and Aeropyrum pernix

    Author : Anna Lewin; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heme A synthesis; heme A; heme A synthase; CtaA; cCtaA; cytochrome a; Aeropyrum pernix; Bacillus subtilis;

    Abstract : Respiration in animals, plants and many bacteria is dependent on heme A, which functions as a prosthetic group in a-type cytochromes (terminal energy-transducing oxidases in the electron transport chain that reduce molecular oxygen to water). Heme A synthase catalyses a chemically very demanding reaction, the conversion of one specific methyl side-group of heme O to a formyl group of heme A. READ MORE

  3. 3. An alkaline active maltooligosaccharide forming alpha-amylase from Bacillus halodurans

    Author : Suhaila Hashim; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk teknik; Biochemical technology; differential scanning calorimetry; soda lakes; Bacillus halodurans; alkaliphile; á-amylase;

    Abstract : The East African Rift Valley contains a number of soda lakes, which represent some of the most stable, naturally occurring alkaline environments on earth. Alkaliphilic microorganisms found in these habitats have attracted a great interest due to their ability to produce extracellular enzymes that are active and stable at high pH values for industrial applications. 4. 4. An Alkaline Active Cyclodextrin Glycosyltransferase from an Alkaliphilic Bacillus agaradhaerens

    Author : Rita Martins; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cloning; characterization; purification; 16S rRNA gene analysis; screening; alkaliphiles; soda lakes; Bacillus agaradhaerens; cyclodextrins; cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase; alpha-amylase family; sequencing; immobilization; Biotechnology; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : Soda lakes represent the most stable naturally-occurring alkaline environments on Earth and harbour a diverse population of alkaliphiles. Alkaliphilic microorganisms have attracted a great interest due to their ability to produce extracellular enzymes that are active and stable at high pH values. READ MORE

  5. 5. An Alkaline Active Endo-Xylanase from Bacillus halodurans S7:Molecular and Structural Aspects

    Author : Gashaw Mamo; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bioteknik; Biotechnology; Biokemisk teknik; mutagensis; Biochemical technology; xylanase structure; glycoside hydrolase family 10 cloning; Bacillus halodurans; Xylanase; alkaliphiles;

    Abstract : A strain of an alkaliphilic bacterium Bacillus halodurans was isolated from a water sample in Lake Shalla, a soda lake in the Ethiopian Rift Valley. From the culture of this isolate, B. halodurans S7, a xylanase which is active in a wide range of pH, with an optimum at about 9-9.5 was purified. READ MORE
