  1. 1. Enzyme-Based Amperometric Biosensors in Flow-Systems for Biomolecule Detection

    Author : Niklas Larsson; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microdialysis; Liquid chromatography; Flow injection; Polyelectrolytes; Carbohydrate; Mediator; Dehydrogenase; Peroxidase; Oxidase; Enzyme; Amperometric detection; Carbon paste; Biosensor; Graphite electrode; On-line monitoring; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Amperometric enzyme based biosensors were designed, developed and characterised in flow systems. Solid graphite and carbon paste electrodes were used as support for enzyme immobilisation. Both mediated and direct electron transfers between redox enzymes and electrodes were utilised for biosensor construction, as well as coupled enzyme systems. READ MORE

  2. 2. Bioelectrochemical Applications of Reactions Catalyzed by Immobilized Enzymes

    Author : Xiao-Jing Tang; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Acetate Kinase.; NAD NADH recycling; Enzyme Electrodes; Enzyme reactors; Enzyme Immobilization; Electrochemical detection; Flow Injection Analysis; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The sensitivity of biosensors can be increased substantially by incorporation in a substrate recycling scheme. Based on the amplification of NAD+/NADH by the recycling reaction catalyzed by glycerol dehydrogenase (GDH) and diaphorase, NAD+/NADH can be determined amperometrically with around 1000 times higher sensitivity than for the substrate sensing mode. 3. 3. Experimental studies of lipid mediator modulation of airway responsiveness

    Author : Willem Abma; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Lipid mediators play an important role in responsiveness of the airways. The roles of prostanoids and leukotrienes in inducing airway inflammation and contraction are reasonably well established. READ MORE

  4. 4. Prostaglandin E2 as mediator and modulator of airway smooth muscle responses

    Author : Jesper Säfholm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is a lipid mediator produced by virtually every cell of the human body. Because common non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) inhibit its biosynthesis, PGE2 is usually considered to be a ‘pro-inflammatory’ mediator. The role of PGE2 in the lung and airways has however always been unclear. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cellular mechanisms involved in bone resorption

    Author : Ulf Lerner; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Bone resorption. cyclic AMP; parathyroid hormone; prostaglandins; la OH D3; lysosomal enzyme release; osteoclast; periodontitis; rheumatoid arthritis;

    Abstract : The effects of parathyroid hormone (PTH), prostaglandins (PGE1, PGE2, PGF2a), cAMP, cAMP-analogues, phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors and la (OH) D3 on bone resorption and associated cellular process have been studied in a bone organ culture system using half- calvaria from 6-7 day-old mice. Bone resorption was assessed by determining the release of calcium (Ca2+), inorganic phosphate (Pi) and 45Ca from the calvarial bones to the culture media. READ MORE
