  1. 1. Eosinophil Apoptosis

    Author : Kristina Seton; Joachim Lundahl; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell biology; Apoptosis; Programmed Cell Death; Survival; Eosinophils; Inflammatory Diseases; Resolution of inflammation; Functions; Flow cytometry; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : Apoptosis or programmed cell death is crucial for the resolution of inflammation, and phagocytosis of apoptotic cells initiates the release of actively anti-inflammatory responses from the phagocytes. Eosinophils are one of the most potent inflammatory cells in the body and is involved in a number of diseases, most commonly associated with parasitic infections and allergic diseases. READ MORE

  2. 2. Eosinophil Cationic Protein : Expression Levels and Polymorphisms

    Author : Jonas Byström; Helene Rosenberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Eosinophils; Neutrophils; Monocytes; Macrophages; mRNA; eosinophil cationic protein; DNA; polymorphism; Hodgkin Lymphoma; asthma; allergy; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : The eosinophil cationic protein (ECP) is usually associated with the eosinophil granulocyte. In this thesis the presence and production of this protein has been studied in two other cells. The circulating monocyte was found to contain ECP mRNA and small amounts of ECP, one thousand times less than that found in the eosinophil. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cytokine-regulated eosinophil migration in inflammatory disorders : Clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Maria Lampinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Medical sciences; Eosinophil; cytokine; migration; inflammation; asthma; allergy; inflammatory bowel disease; ulcerative colitis; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : The accumulation of eosinophil granulocytes (EOS) at sites of inflammation is a common feature of astma, allergic rhinitis and inflammatory bowel disease. The aim of the present investigation was to study the mechanisms involved in this accumulation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Inflammation in asthma: relation to symptomatology, exacerbations and lung function

    Author : Ida Mogensen; Andrei Malinovschi; Christer Jansson; Mona Bafadhel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Asthma; eosinophil; eosinophil cationic protein; eosinophil derived neurotoxin; periostin; neutrophil; fixed airflow obstruction; lung function; asthma attack; asthma symptom;

    Abstract : Asthma is an inflammatory disease in the airways. It is characterized by respiratory symptoms such as wheezing, variable airflow obstruction and impaired lung function development. A better understanding of the underlying inflammation is crucial in order to treat and prevent asthma symptoms and lung function deterioration. READ MORE
