  1. 1. Hydrolysis of by-products from cereal kernels for improved ethanol production

    Author : Beatriz Palmarola Adrados; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical technology and engineering; starch-free fibres; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; wheat starch fibres; starch-free bran; wheat bran; SSF; enzymatic hydrolysis; H2SO4; microwave pretreatment; Ethanol production; steam pretreatment;

    Abstract : This work deals with the hydrolysis of lignocellulosic agricultural residues, by means of combined pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis, to be used for ethanol production. Four agricultural by-products, i.e. READ MORE

  2. 2. Countercurrent operation in the dilute-acid hydrolysis of cellulose for ethanol production

    Author : Pär Pettersson; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; model; lignocellulose; wood; cellulose; ethanol production; dilute-acid hydrolysis; countercurrent; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Chemical technology and engineering;

    Abstract : Fuel ethanol can be produced from lignocellulosic materials to replace gasoline and diesel. A crucial step in the production process is the hydrolysis (saccharification) of the material, which can be achieved with dilute acid at high temperature. Unfortunately, sugar is degraded under these severe conditions, and the sugar yield is generally low. READ MORE

  3. 3. Lignocellulosic Ethanol Production Based on Steam Pretreatment and SSF: Process Development through Experiments and Simulations

    Author : Per Sassner; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Process simulation; Energy efficiency; SSF; Enzymatic hydrolysis; Lignocellulose; Steam pretreatment; Ethanol production; Process economics; Flow-sheeting;

    Abstract : Lignocellulosic materials, such as wood, waste products from the forestry industry, agricultural residues and herbaceous crops, serve as an abundant and comparatively cheap feedstock with the potential to be used for large-scale ethanol production. However, the complex structure of lignocellulosic materials, the presence of various hexose and pentose sugars in hemicellulose, and the presence of various compounds that inhibit the fermenting organism constitute physical barriers that add to the production cost and make full-scale introduction economically more risky. 4. 4. Lignocellulosic Ethanol Production: Studies on Sugarcane Bagasse, Paja Brava, Wheat Straw, Quinoa Stalks and Curupaú

    Author : Cristhian Carrasco; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Steam pretreatment; ethanol production; SSCF; arabinosylated aromatics; SO2; H2SO4; sugarcane bagasse; paja brava; wheat straw; quinoa stalks; Anadenanthera colubrina;

    Abstract : Lignocellulosic biomass refers to plant material that is composed mainly of cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. These materials are today of large interest to researchers in the field of biofuel and bioenergy. READ MORE

  5. 5. Improving Ethanol Production from Lignocellulose Hydrolyzates: Fed-batch Fermentation, Yeast Cultivation and Strain Development for Increased Tolerance

    Author : Anneli Petersson; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; Chemical technology and engineering; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; fed-batch control; Ethanol production; dilute acid hydrolyzate;

    Abstract : Ethanol production by the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae from dilute acid lignocellulose hydrolyzate was studied with the aim to improve fuel ethanol production. Specifically, the problem of inhibition was addressed. READ MORE
