  1. 1. Low-energy buildings : energy use, indoor climate and market diffusion

    Author : Johannes Persson; Stefan Grönkvist; Svend Svendsen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; building energy simulations; energy efficiency gap; energy use; indoor climate; low-energy buildings;

    Abstract : Low-energy buildings have, in recent years, gained attention and moved towards a large-scale introduction in the residential sector. During this process, national and international criteria for energy use in buildings have become stricter and the European Union has through the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive imposed on member states to adapt their building regulations for ‘Nearly Zero Energy Buildings’, which by 2021 should be standard for new buildings. Abstract : A powerful symbol of modernity, in its early days, nuclear energy was associated with images of progress and dreams of a better life. At the start of the European process of integration, it was hoped that peaceful cooperation in nuclear matters would bring about lasting peace in the European continent. READ MORE

    Abstract : With joint commitments by twenty-seven countries under the Paris Agreement, the European Union envisioned a resource-efficient and competitive economy without net emission of greenhouse gases by 2050. Immediate and massive efforts across sectors of energy, industry, and buildings will be required, and district heating (DH), through its ability to integrate efficiency measures on the supply and demand side, can play a central role. Abstract : Increased energy performance of the building stock of European Union is seen as an important measure towards mitigating climate change, increasing resource utilisation efficiency and energy supply security. Whether to improve the supply-side, the demand-side or both is an open issue. READ MORE

  5. 5. Hydrogen in the European energy system - The cost dynamics and the value of time-shifting electricity generation

    Author : Simon Öberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []

    Abstract : If the European Union is to become climate-neutral by Year 2050, as envisioned in the European Green Deal, the European energy system must undergo an unprecedented transformation towards eliminating its carbon emissions. For this transition, renewable electricity plays a central role, not only in replacing the current fossil-based electricity generation, but also in promoting the electrification of other sectors, such as transport and industry, sectors which are currently based on fossil fuels.
