1. Configuration Design of a High Performance and Responsive Manufacturing System : Modeling and Evaluation
Abstract : Configuring and reconfiguring a manufacturing system is presented as an issue with increasing importance due to higher frequency of system configuration or major reconfigurations to accommodate new set of requirements and/or the need to configure the system to make it usable across generations of products or product families. This research has focused in the modeling, evaluation and selection decisions which involves multiple, incommensurate and conflicting objectives. READ MORE

2. Optimization of Compressive Crushing
Abstract : With almost all infrastructures being dependent on the supply of crushed rock materials, minerals, and ores, it is fair to say that the foundation of modern society is literally built uponthese materials. As society continues to develop and standards of living progressivelyincrease, the subsequent growing demand for crushed rock materials, minerals, and ores willresult in a need for improving the performance and efficiency of rock crushing equipment. 3. Molecular Radionuclide Imaging Using Site-specifically Labelled Recombinant Affibody Molecules : Preparation and Preclinical Evaluation
Abstract : Radionuclide molecular imaging is an emerging multidisciplinary technique that is used in modern medicine to visualise diseases at cellular and molecular levels. This thesis is based on five papers (I-V) and focuses on the development of site-specific radiolabelled recombinant anti-HER2 Affibody molecules and preclinical evaluations in vitro and in vivo of the labelled conjugates. 4. Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy Optimization : Comparison and Evaluation of Non-invasive Methods
Abstract : The general purpose of this thesis was to investigate new cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) optimization techniques and to assess their reliability when compared to invasive measurements of left ventricular contractility (LV dP/dtmax).We first assessed whether cardiac output (CO) measured by trans-thoracic impedance cardiography could correctly identify the optimal interventricular (VV) pacing interval while using invasive measurements of LV dP/dtmax as reference. 5. Design and optimization of parallel haptic devices : Design methodology and experimental evaluation
Abstract : The simulation of surgical procedures, in the case of hard tissues such as bone or teeth milling, using a haptic milling surgery simulator requires a haptic device which can provide high stiffness and transparency. To mimic a real milling process of hard tissue, such as for example creating a narrow channel or cavity, the simulator needs to provide force/torque feedback in 5–6 degrees of freedom (DOF). READ MORE
