  1. 1. Excavation in moraine and dense non-cohesive soil : Numerical analysis of soil behavior

    Author : Mattias Lindgren; Staffan Hinze; Sigurdur Erlingsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Excavation; Excavatability; Moraine; Dense non-cohesive soil;

    Abstract : Excavation and moving of soil are common civil work tasks connected to the construction of buildings, roads and railways. In construction projects large amounts of soil have to be handled with different machines, tools and working methods. Soils are more or less difficult to excavate depending on their properties. 3. 3. The Unloading Modulus of Soft Soil: A Field and Laboratory Study

    Author : Jenny Persson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; swelling; heave; Clay; case study; excavation;

    Abstract : Improved infrastructure in urban areas often necessitates underground construction, where the unloading behaviour of the soil is of importance for predicting the amount of heave and how long it will take for the soil to swell. It is of particular interest to study the need for the installation of tension piles, as well as whether the tunnel will be subjected to settlement or heave in the long term. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hydrogeological Methods in Geotechnical Engineering: Applied to settlements caused by underground construction

    Author : Jenny Persson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; excavation; tunnel; hydrogeology; consolidation; pumping test; Groundwater; inflow rate; settlement; transmissivity; pore pressure; clay;

    Abstract : Improvement in the infrastructure in urban areas generally involves underground construction with tunneling and deep excavations. One important consideration when constructing in cities founded on soft soil is settlement resulting from groundwater drawdown. The potential cost of excessive settlement in these projects is immense. READ MORE
