1. Real-time breath gas analysis of carbon monoxide : laser-based detection and pulmonary gas exchange modeling
Abstract : Breath gas analysis is a promising approach for non-invasive medical diagnostics and physiological monitoring. Real-time, breath-cycle resolved biomarker detection facilitates data interpretation and has the potential to improve the diagnostic value of breath tests as exhalation profiles carry spatiotemporal information about biomarker origin and gas exchange in the respiratory tract. 2. Exhaled markers of oxidative stress in the airways
Abstract : Breath contains a number of different molecules, some of which may have potential use as markers for oxidative stress in the airways during chronic airway inflammation. The major objectives were to develop and validate methods for quantifying five potential exhaled markers of oxidative stress: malondialdehyde (MDA) and free 3-nitrotyrosine (3-NT) in exhaled breath condensate (EBC) and ethane, pentane and isoprene in exhaled air, and to test the applicability of the methods. 3. Reducing Radon Gas Emissions in Concrete
Abstract : Several compulsory regulations and recommendations regarding ionising radiation for building products have been introduced in recent years. Furthermore, industry-affiliated aggregate and concrete companies strive to implement environmental goals that should be fulfilled regarding building materials. READ MORE

4. MEMS-based electrochemical gas sensors and wafer-level methods
Abstract : This thesis describes novel microel ectromechanical system (MEMS) based electrochemical gas sensors and methods of fabrication. This thesis presents the research in two parts. In the first part, a method to handle a thin silicon wafer using an electrochemically active adhesive is described. READ MORE

5. Exahaled NO and small airway function in asthma and cystic fibrosis
Abstract : Background: Asthma and cystic fibrosis (CF) are chronic inflammatory airway disorders known to involve the peripheral airways. Non-invasive tests sensitive to peripheral airway function and inflammation are therefore of high priority. READ MORE
