  1. 1. Exploring the Exotic Experimental Investigations far from Stability

    Author : Karin Markenroth; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cross sections; driplines; inbeam spectroscopy; 10; unbound nuclei; 8 B; 11; 17; longitudinal momentum distributions; breakup reactions; projectile fragmentation; resonances; 19 C; elastic resonance scattering; halo nuclei; 13 N;

    Abstract : The exploration of exotic nuclei is one of the most intriguing and fastest expanding fields in modern nuclear physics. In the extreme conditions of unsymmetric neutron-proton distributions and small binding energies many nuclear phenomena not encountered closer to stability have revealed themselves, often as a surprise to the nuclear physics community, the prime example being the development of halo structures as the binding energy diminishes. 2. 2. On the Few-Body Character of Light Exotic Nuclei - Analytical Studies of Electromagnetic Processes Involving Loosely Bound Systems

    Author : Christian Forssen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; few-body physics; exotic nuclei; electromagnetic processes; borromean systems; invariant mass spectra; halo states; nuclear astrophysics;

    Abstract : The few-body character of loosely bound nuclei along the drip lines is studied within an analytical approach. It is argued that the clusterization of these systems leads to a modification of the normal phase space distribution of fragment momenta in breakup reactions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Bits and Pieces for the Nuclear Puzzle - Exploring light exotic nuclei with radioactive ion beams

    Author : Ronja Thies; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ISOLDE; GSI; FAIR; R3B; Neutron-rich nuclei; Radioactive Beams;

    Abstract : Atomic nuclei are a fascinating case of many-body systems governed by quantum behaviour. This fact and the complex nuclear interaction are reasons why there is not yet a complete theory describing all atomic nuclei. Both experimental and theoretical efforts are needed to change this situation. READ MORE

  4. 4. Transfer reactions in inverse kinematics at REX-ISOLDE

    Author : Elisabeth Tengborn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; REX-ISOLDE; Exotic nuclei; transfer reactions in inverse kinematics.;

    Abstract : Research on the structure of exotic nuclei is one of the most intriguing topics in present day nuclear physics. With the use of facilities for isotope separation on-line, such as ISOLDE at CERN, short-lived isotopes can be studied experimentally. READ MORE

  5. 5. Excursions Along the Drip Line

    Author : Thomas Nilsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; beta-decay; cross-talk; exotic nuclei; reaction mechanism; neutron halo; gas-detector telescope; momentum distributions; 8He; neutron detection; radioactivity; 6; dissociation; neutron drip line; 11Be; Borromean systems; 11Li;

    Abstract : The drip lines are the outer boundaries of the chart of the nuclides, terminating the isobaric chains on both sides of the valley of .beta.-stability with respect to stability against particle emission. The neutron drip line is, at the moment, only experimentally accessible for the very lightest elements. READ MORE
