  1. 1. Stereotypes: Suppression, Forgetting, and False Memory

    Author : Tadesse Araya; Georg Stenberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Social psychology; Stereotype suppression; stereotype control; prejudice; priming; directed forgetting; DRM paradigm; false recall; false recognition; Socialpsykologi; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents four studies investigating (1) whether incidentally primed control-related words can attenuate the impact of activated stereotypes on subsequent evaluation of a target person, (2) the impact of motivated forgetting on the recall of stereotypically congruent and incongruent information, and (3) the impact of a directed forgetting instruction on the false recall and recognition of nonpresented stereotypical information.In three experiments, Study I showed that participants initially primed with the social category, immigrant, and subsequently primed with words that were evocative of control or self-control made less negative impression of a target displaying ambiguous behaviors than participants not exposed to such words. 2. 2. Predictive eyes precede retrieval : visual recognition as hypothesis testing

    Author : Linus Holm; Timo Mäntylä; Lars Nyberg; David Melcher; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; declarative memory; face perception; object recognition; scene recognition; eye movements; visual awareness; recollection; familiarity; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : Does visual recognition entail verifying an idea about what is perceived? This question was addressed in the three studies of this thesis. The main hypothesis underlying the investigation was that visual recognition is an active process involving hypothesis testing. READ MORE

  3. 3. Prior Knowledge and Recognition Memory : a Computational Modeling Approach

    Author : Johan Hellman; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Recognition memory; Episodic memory; Pre-experimental familiarity; Event-Related Potentials; Item variability; Receiver-Operating Characteristics; Computational Models;

    Abstract : For more than a century, an immense interest has been devoted to the study of recognition memory, where a multitude of memory phenomena has been explained. Recognition memory is usually described with parsimonious measurement and statistical models, stemming from dual process theory and signal detection theory. READ MORE

  4. 4. From interest contagion to perspective sharing : How social attention affects children's performance in false-belief tasks

    Author : Andreas Falck; Institutionen för psykologi; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; attention; social cognition; intersubjectivity; false-belief task; contagion;

    Abstract : A large amount of socio-cognitive research has been devoted to questions about different perspectives – how do we understand that other people can have their own perspectives on reality. This is typically studied with so called false-belief-tasks (FBTs), which are experimental tasks designed to tap into an ability to understand that other people may have beliefs differing from our own (perspective-taking). 5. 5. Supporting lifestories through activity recognition and digital reminiscence

    Author : Basel Kikhia; Chris Nugent; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pervasive Mobile Computing; Distribuerade datorsystem;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis discusses how lifelogging technologies can be used to build digital reminiscence systems. Lifelogging is a recent pervasive computing trend where different aspects of someone’s life are captured digitally. READ MORE
