  1. 1. Shun the Pun, Rescue the Rhyme? : The Dubbing and Subtitling of Language Play in Film

    Author : Thorsten Schröter; Moira Linnarud; Patrick Zabalbeascoa; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; family films; screen translation; similes; idioms; modified expressions; play with foreign words; nonce formations; play with grammar; rhymes; half-rhymes; alliteration; repetition; dubbing; subtitling; compensation; humour; language-play; wordplay; puns; metaphors; English language; Engelska språket; English; Engelska;

    Abstract : Language-play can briefly be described as the wilful manipulation of the peculiarities of a linguistic system in a way that draws attention to these peculiarities themselves, thereby causing a communicative and cognitive effect that goes beyond the conveyance of propositional meaning. Among the various phenomena answering this description are the different kinds of puns, but also more strictly form-based manipulations such as rhymes and alliteration, in addition to a host of other, sometimes even fuzzier, subcategories. 2. 2. Approximant Phases in Quasicrystalline AlCuFe Thin Films

    Author : Simon Olsson; Lars Hultman; Jens Birch; Fredrik Eriksson; Xiaodong Zou; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Quasicrystalline materials exhibit properties that are very different from conventional metallic materials. They are mostly metallic alloys, and show high hardness and stiffness but low electrical and thermal conductivity. The coefficient of friction and surface energy of the quasicrystalline materials are also very low. READ MORE

  3. 3. Nanostructural design of transition metal nitride thin films

    Author : Torbjörn Joelsson; Ivan Petrov; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Early transition metal nitrides have found extensive use in a range of thin film applications. We are just beginning to understand their growth from vapor phase deposition and microstructure-property relationships. READ MORE

  4. 4. Phase Formation of Nanolaminated Transition Metal Carbide Thin Films

    Author : Chung-Chuan Lai; Johanna Rosén; Per Eklund; Lars Hultman; Miladin Radovic; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Research on inherently nanolaminated transition metal carbides is inspired by their unique properties combining metals and ceramics, such as higher damage tolerance, better machinability and lower brittleness compared to the binary counterparts, yet retaining the metallic conductivity. The interesting properties are related to their laminated structure, composed of transition-metalcarbide layers interleaved by non-transition-metal (carbide) layers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Carbide and MAX-Phase Engineering by Thin Film Synthesis

    Author : Jens-Petter Palmquist; Ulf Jansson; M. Jochen Schneider; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; Thin films; microstructure; epitaxy; carbide; WC; MAX-phase; Ti3SiC2; DC magnetron sputtering; PVD; Reciprocal Space Mapping; RSM; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis reports on the development of low-temperature processes for transition metal carbide and MAX-phase thin film growth. Magnetron sputtering and evaporation, far from thermodynamical equilibrium, have been utilised to engineer the properties of the films by physical and chemical control. READ MORE
