  1. 1. Time-domain modelling of curve squeal: a fast model for one- and two-point wheel/rail contact

    Author : Ivan Zenzerovic; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; two-point contact; non-Hertzian contact; dynamics coupling; rolling contact; tangential point-contact model; Curve squeal; time domain; frictional instability;

    Abstract : Curve squeal is a type of railway noise that may arise when a railway vehicle negotiates a relatively tight curve. A single frequency, corresponding to a wheel mode, dominates the radiated sound, which makes squeal a very tonal noise. READ MORE

  2. 2. Boundary integral methods for Stokes flow : Quadrature techniques and fast Ewald methods

    Author : Oana Marin; Anna-Karin Tornberg; Anita Layton; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; boundary integral; Stokes flow; quadrature rule; Ewald decomposition;

    Abstract : Fluid phenomena dominated by viscous effects can, in many cases, be modeled by the Stokes equations. The boundary integral form of the Stokes equations reduces the number of degrees of freedom in a numerical discretization by reformulating the three-dimensional problem to two-dimensional integral equations to be discretized over the boundaries of the domain. 3. 3. Fast and High-Quality Visibility Determination

    Author : Rasmus Barringer; Institutionen för datavetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; computer graphics; visibility; anti-aliasing; line sampling; ray tracing; rendering;

    Abstract : Computer generated imagery is vital to the entertainment industry in the production of games and films, for example. It is also increasingly important for visualization in design, architecture, engineering, and medicine, to name a few. Improvements to rendering techniques come from a combination of improved algorithms and more powerful hardware. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dosimetry and radiation quality in fast-neutron radiation therapy : A study of radiation quality and basic dosimetric properties of fast-neutrons for external beam radiotherapy and problems associated with corrections of measured charged particle cross-sections

    Author : Jonas Söderberg; Gudrun Alm Carlsson; Crister Ceberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neutron; Dosimetry; Radiotherapy; Monte Carlo; Microdosimetry; Cross-section; RBE; LET; Energy-loss corrections; Radiological physics; Radiofysik;

    Abstract : The dosimetric properties of fast-neutron beams with energies ≤80 MeV were explored using Monte Carlo techniques. Taking into account transport of all relevant types of released charged particles (electrons, protons, deuterons, tritons, 3He and α particles) pencil-beam dose distributions were derived and used to calculate absorbed dose distributions. 5. 5. Extensions and Applications of Fast-Lipschitz Optimization

    Author : Martin Jakobsson; Carlo Fischione; Michael Rabbat; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Fast-Lipschitz optimization is a framework for optimization problems having a special structure in which the optimal solution is given by a set of equations, easily solvable through fixed point iterations. This solution method is simple to implement and particularly well suited for distributed optimization applications, such as those arising in wireless sensor networks. READ MORE
