  1. 1. Waring-type problems for polynomials : Algebra meets Geometry

    Author : Alessandro Oneto; Boris Shapiro; Brian Harbourne; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; polynomials; Waring problems; Hilbert series; fat points; power ideals; secant varieties; Mathematics; matematik;

    Abstract : In the present thesis we analyze different types of additive decompositions of homogeneous polynomials. These problems are usually called Waring-type problems and their story go back to the mid-19th century and, recently, they received the attention of a large community of mathematicians and engineers due to several applications. 2. 2. Power ideals, Fröberg conjecture and Waring problems

    Author : Alessandro Oneto; Boris Shapiro; Ralf Fröberg; Kristian Ranestad; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; power ideals; Hilbert function; fat points; Waring problem; matematik; Mathematics;

    Abstract : This thesis is divided into two chapters. First, we want to study particularclasses of power ideals, with particular attention to their relation with the Fröberg conjecture on the Hilbert series of generic ideals. READ MORE

  3. 3. The role of fibroblast growth factor-23 in chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder

    Author : Majd A. I. Mirza; Tobias Larsson; Tilman Drüeke; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; FGF23; FGF-23; CKD; CKD-MBD; cardiovascular disease; vascular function; atherosclerosis; hypertrophy; LVMI; LVH; fractures; bone; fat mass; obesity; apolipoproteins; cholesterol; lipids; Kidney diseases; Njursjukdomar; Cardiovascular medicine; Kardiovaskulär medicin; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) was initially identified as the causative factor of autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets. Further studies confirmed that FGF23 is predominantly expressed in the osteocytes and osteoblasts of bone and that circulating FGF23 acts on the kidney to inhibit renal phosphate reabsorption and 1,25(OH)2D3 hydroxylation. 4. 4. Das Human-Kapital : Emerging Patterns in the Class Structure

    Author : Danial Ali Akbari; Nationalekonomiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Income inequality; Human capital accumulation; Progressive income taxation; Ambiguity aversion; Skill premium; Technology adoption; Labor immiseration; Job market polarization; Task-based framework; Fat tails;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of three self-contained papers in theoretical and computational macroeconomics and growth theory with income inequality and human capital accumulation as common themes. The first paper investigates what level of income tax progressivity is welfare-optimal given modern patterns of income inequality in the US. READ MORE

  5. 5. Inflammatory status in adolescents : the impact of health determinants such as overweight and fitness

    Author : Julia Wärnberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Adolescence; low-grade inflammation; CRP; ceruloplasmin; C3; C4; overweight; cardiorespiratory fitness.;

    Abstract : Overweight prevalences are rising among youth and the prevention of associated chronic diseases is priority concern in public health. Inflammatory processes are involved in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases and may also play an important initiating role in the development of the cardiovascular lesion. READ MORE
