  1. 1. Regulation of Elovl and fatty acid metabolism

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Wenner-Grens institut för experimentell biologi

    Author : Annelie Brolinson; Stockholms universitet.; [2009]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; fatty acid metabolism; fatty acid elongation; ODONTOLOGY Physiology; ODONTOLOGI Fysiologi; Physiology; fysiologi;

    Abstract : Fatty acids are important regulators in the control of mammalian energy homeostasis. They are ingested in the diet but a significant amount are also endogenously produced by de novo lipogenesis. READ MORE

    Abstract : Dietary fat quality influences the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. A low-grade inflammation is suggested to contribute to the disease development, often accompanied by obesity. Whereas n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) have been considered anti-inflammatory, n-6 PUFA have been proposed to act pro-inflammatory. READ MORE

  3. 3. Characterization of two novel fatty acid dioxygenases : Linoleate diol synthase and manganese lipoxygenase

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Chao Su; Uppsala universitet.; [1999]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Dioxygenase; hemeprotein; lipoxygenase; metalloenzyme; oxylipin; fatty acid; manganese-protein; Gaeumannomyces graminis; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; PHARMACY Biopharmacy; FARMACI Biofarmaci; Pharmaceutics; galenisk farmaci;

    Abstract : Two classes of fatty acid dioxygenases, PGH synthases (hemeproteins) and lipoxygenases (non-heme iron proteins), are of eminent pharmacological importance. This thesis describes a PGH synthase-related dioxygenase designated linoleate diol synthase (LDS) and the first native occurring manganese-containing lipoxygenase. READ MORE

    Abstract : The gastrointestinal tract (GIT) regulates nutrient uptake, secretes hormones and has a crucial gut flora and enteric nervous system. Of relevance for these functions are the G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and the solute carriers (SLCs). READ MORE

  5. 5. Fatty Acid Composition in Skeletal Muscle Influence of Physical Activity and Dietary Fat Quality

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Agneta Andersson; Uppsala universitet.; [2001]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medical sciences; Skeletal muscle; phospholipids; triglycerides; fatty acids; physical activity; lipid peroxidation; dietary fat quality; n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Geriatrics; geriatrik;

    Abstract : Insulin sensitivity is related to the fatty acid profile of skeletal muscle. The aim of this thesis was to investigate whether physical activity and dietary fat quality, independent of each other, influence the fatty acid composition of the skeletal muscle lipids. READ MORE
