  1. 21. Role of Fatty Acid Composition in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: a Dietary Perspective : Results from Interventional and Observational Studies

    Author : Michael Fridén; Ulf Risérus; Fredrik Rosqvist; Helen Lindqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fatty acids; Diet; Biomarkers; NAFLD; Liver fat; Fibrosis; Cirrhosis; HCC; Nutrition; Nutrition;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this doctoral thesis was to investigate the role of circulating, liver and dietary fatty acids in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). For circulating and liver fatty acids, special emphasis was given to fatty acids reflecting diet. READ MORE

  2. 22. Molecular Insight into Ion-Specific Interactions : Vibrational Sum Frequency Study of the Carboxylic Acid Moiety

    Author : Adrien Sthoer; Eric Tyrode; Paul Cremer; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; specific ion effects; carboxylic acid; fatty acid Langmuir monolayer; vibrational sum frequency spectroscopy; VSFS; Electrical double layer;

    Abstract : Ion specific effects at charged interfaces find numerous applications in colloidal sciences and play a vital role in many biological processes. Despite having been studied for over a century, starting with the work of F. Hofmeister in the 1880s, a comprehensive molecular  understanding remains elusive. READ MORE

  3. 23. Lipid Composition and Deterioration in Light and Dark Muscle of Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

    Author : Torbjörn Ingemansson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Docosahexaenoic acid; lipid classes; fatty acids; muscle lipids; Palmitic acid; trout; differences; lipids; fish;

    Abstract : Nutritionally valuable lipids, including lipid classes and their fatty acids in light and dark muscle, have been determined and analyzed in farmed rainbow trout. Dark muscle was found to have a higher content of total lipids than light muscle, 7.3 wt% versus 3.0 wt%, which was mostly accounted for by neutral lipids, especially triacylglycerols. READ MORE

  4. 24. Multidimensional engineering for the production of fatty acid derivatives in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Author : Yating Hu; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; protein engineering; Saccharomyces cerevisiae; fatty acid derivatives; metabolic engineering; tolerance; transporter;

    Abstract : Saccharomyces cerevisiae , also known as budding yeast, has been important for human society since ancient time due to its use during bread making and beer brewing, but it has also made important contribution to scientific studies as model eukaryote. The ease of genetic modification and the robustness and tolerance towards harsh conditions have established yeast as one of the most popular chassis in industrial-scale production of various compounds. 5. 25. Quantification of Fat Content and Fatty Acid Composition Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging

    Author : Pernilla Peterson; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MRI; fat quantification; water fat imaging; chemical shift; skeletal muscle; fat reference; bipolar gradient; fatty acid composition; relaxation;

    Abstract : In obesity and several other disease scenarios, the measurement of fat accumulation in various organs and tissues has become a sought-after technique in clinical diagnostics and research. Especially, quantitative and non-invasive techniques which also provide images of accumulated fat throughout the body would be valuable. READ MORE
