1. Impact of glucose feed rate on productivity and recombinant protein quality in Escherichia coli
Abstract : The goal of this work was to contribute to the fed-batch process optimisation task by deriving parameters that have considerable impact on productivity as well as product quality The chosen parameters were I) the design of the glucose feed profile, II) the choice of induction strategy, with respect to the method of addition, and III) the time of the induction, with respect to the specific glucose consumption rate. The present fed-batch experiments using the lacUV5-promoter, for production of b-galactosidase, have shown that a high glucose feed rate gives a specific production rate, qp, that is twice as high, after induction, compared to a feed rate that is 2. 2. Ultra-wideband feed design and characterization for next generation radio telescopes
Abstract : Radio telescopes are used as tools for observations in both radio astronomy and geodesy. To observe the weak sources in space, highly sensitive receivers headed by optimized reflector feeds are needed. Wideband and ultra-wideband (UWB) receiver systems enable large continuous frequency bandwidth and reduce the number of receivers that are needed. READ MORE

3. Neuromolecular and behavioural profile of teleosts : - effects of boldness, agonistic behaviour and reproductive status
Abstract : This thesis investigates if boldness is reflected in the function of brain histaminergic system in zebrafish (Danio rerio). Moreover, behavioural differences in AB line, spiegeldanio (spd) line and wild caught strain of zebrafish have also been explored apart from the winner-loser effect in AB and spd fish. READ MORE

4. Influence of strain, feed profile and cultivation technique on the lipid structure and membrane function in Escherichia coli
Abstract : The phospholipid and fatty acids content of the Escherichiacoli membrane were investigated during changes of feed rate, cultivation technique and host strains.During continuous cultivation it was shown that the leakageof periplasmic protein to the medium had an optimum at 0.3 h-1,resulting in transport of 20% of the total recombinant product. 5. Feedback thermotherapy for benign prostatic enlargement : A clinical and methodological evaluation
Abstract : The purpose of this thesis was to evaluate a new treatment strategy for symptomatic benign prostatic enlargement. The transurethral thermotherapy (TUMT) antenna design was studied. The design influences the heating-profile significantly and the absorbed energy in a target volume were only about 13-20% of the energy delivered. READ MORE
