  1. 1. Semi-natural meadows in southern Sweden - changes over time and the relationship between nitrogen supply and management

    Author : Gudrun A I Berlin; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plant community dynamic; Nitrogen; Mowing; Meadows; Management; Long-term study; Landscape changes; Field experiment; Community diversity; Fertilisation; Species changes; Species turnover; Plant ecology; Växtekologi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, I have studied continuously managed semi-natural meadows in south-central Sweden. The purpose was 1) to make a survey of meadow vegetation in the region 2) to compare two investigations of the vegetation, one from 1963-1966 and one from 1990 3) to investigate experimentally in the field how increased nitrogen supply rate as well as changed management intensity effects the nitrogen economy and species richness in two meadow communities. 2. 2. External Mycelia of Mycorrhizal Fungi - responses to elevated N in forest ecosystems

    Author : Lars Ola Nilsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ericoid; arbuscular; mycorrhiza; nitrogen; deposition; fertilisation; nitrate leaching; retention; field; forest; Quercus; deciduous; Plant ecology; Växtekologi; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; mycology; Microbiology; External mycelia; ectomycorrhiza; Mikrobiologi; bacteriology; virology;

    Abstract : Most plants live in symbiosis with mycorrhizal fungi. Mycorrhizal roots constitute the interface between the plant and the soil, and almost every fine root of forest trees in nitrogen-limited boreal and temperate forests is colonised by ectomycorrhizal (EM) fungi. READ MORE

  3. 3. The spectral reflectance of coniferous tree stands and of barley influenced by stress : an analysis of field measured spectral data

    Author : Johan Kleman; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : spectral reflectance; field measurement; middle infrared; crops; fertilisation; irrigation; coniferous forest; helicopter; measuring geometry;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the spectral signatures for vegetation. Knowledge about the spectral characteristics of different vegetation types is imperative for an efficient use of existing remote sensing systems, and also to provide guidelines for sensor development. READ MORE

  4. 4. Sustainable agriculture : From global challenges to local land management

    Author : John Livsey; Stefano Manzoni; Steve Lyon; Esteban Jobbágy; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; agriculture; irrigation; nutrients; soil properties; water management; fertilisation; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : Despite the success of agriculture management practices in increasing the availability of food needed to meet the requirements of the expanding global population, there are increasing demands placed on the resources on which the sector depends. Opportunities for the development of agricultural systems are constrained by increasing competition, from other sectors, for shared resources. READ MORE

  5. 5. Towards synthesis for nitrogen fertilisation using a decision support system

    Author : Sandra Wolters; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Nitrogen (N) fertilisation in crops can be made more efficient by moving from uniform application to meeting variable crop requirements within fields. Within field variable rate N fertilisation of winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is practically feasible using information from web-based decision support systems (DSS). READ MORE
