  1. 1. Aspects of the human enteric nervous system : A study of the normal development and of Hirschsprung's disease

    Author : Tomas Wester; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Surgery; enteric nervous system; Hirschsprung s disease; intestinal neuronal dysplasia; neuron density; nitric oxide; bcl-2; interstitial cells of Cajal; c-kit; human; fetal; development; Kirurgi; Surgery; Kirurgi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Abstract : Thirty patients with Hirschsprung's disease (HD) who underwent Rehbein's anterior resection, using a circular stapler to perform the anastomosis, were evaluated retrospectively. The postoperative complication rate and long-term functional outcome were similar to those reported by other investigators using the same and other techniques. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Influence of Intrauterine Environment on Cardiovascular Development During Fetal Life

    Author : Helena Gardiner; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproduktion; sexualitet; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; Obstetrics; gynaecology; arterial distensibility; twin-twin transfusion; Growth-restriction; Fetal; Cardiovascular Development; andrologi;

    Abstract : Fetal growth restriction has been linked to later cardiovascular disease, possibly through reduced arterial distensibility in response to a suboptimal intrauterine environment. This thesis sought firstly to examine the relationship between fetal growth and haemodynamics and their effect on later cardiovascular function and secondly to examine the effects of differential volume loading on arterial distensibility in genetically identical monochorionic twins with twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS) and to explore the effect that early treatment has on vascular development. 3. 3. MRI Studies of the Fetal Brain and Cranium

    Author : Nuno Canto Moreira; Johan Wikström; Raii Raininko; Daniela Prayer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fetal MRI; Brain; Cranium; Development; Normal; Ear; Lip; Palate; Biometry; Hippocampus; Measurements; Radiologi; Radiology;

    Abstract : Ultrasound is the primary modality for fetal imaging, but Magnetic Resonance Imaging nowadays has a valuable complementary role as it often reveals findings that alter pregnancy management. Knowledge on some clinically relevant areas of the normal fetal development is still lacking, and this was the aim of this project. READ MORE

  4. 4. Laminins and alpha11 integrin in the human eye : importance in development and disease

    Author : Berit Byström; Fatima Pedrosa Domellöf; Ulf Stenevi; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; basement membranes; extracellular matrix; laminin; integrin; cornea; development; keratoconus; wound healing; remodeling; immunohistochemistry; Ophtalmiatrics; Oftalmiatrik;

    Abstract : The extracellular matrix (ECM) offers a protective shelter for cells and provides signaling paths important for cell to cell communication. ECM consists of basement membranes (BM) and interstitial matrix. BMs provide mechanical support for parenchymal cells, influence cell proliferation, survival, migration and differentiation. 5. 5. Continuous Intrapartum Maternal and Fetal Temperature Monitoring

    Author : Tony Lavesson; Urogynekologi och reproduktionsfarmakologi; []
    Keywords : Maternal; fetal; temperature; fever; pyrexia; labor; uterine contractions; delivery; chorioamnionitis; epidural;

    Abstract : The maternal temperature is normally increasing during delivery. Maternal fever in labor is a common problem.Such fever could represent a chorioamnionitis (CAM), leading to an increased risk of neonatal encephalopathy andsubsequent cerebral palsy, as well as other complications.
