  1. 1. The role of Lhx2 in the hematopoietic stem cell function, liver development and disease

    Author : Ewa Wandzioch; Leif Carlsson; Stephen A Duncan; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; liver fibrosis; liver development; Lhx2; hematopoietic stem cells; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; molecular cell biology; molekylär cellbiologi;

    Abstract : During embryonic development, generation of functional organs is dependent on proper interactions between different cell types. Elucidation of the mechanisms operating during organ formation might provide insights into the origin of many pathological disorders in the adult. READ MORE

  2. 2. Switching ON Fetal B Lymphopoiesis

    Author : Trine Kristiansen; Avdelningen för molekylär hematologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; B-1 B cells; Lin28; Fetal hematopoietic stem cells;

    Abstract : B-1a cells are innate-like lymphocytes that develop primarily during fetal and neonatal life, whereas adult bone marrow (BM) hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) preferentially give rise to follicular B-2 cells. Functioning at the interface of the innate and adaptive immune systems, B-1a cells provide a non-redundant first line of defense prior to the temporally delayed establishment of a B-2 cell response. 3. 3. Fetal hematopoietic cells in early gestation : aspects in view of fetal transplantation

    Author : Sverker Ek; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Fetal stem cells; fetal liver; fetal hematopoiesis; immunological ontogeny; fetal transplantation; cytokines; CD34 enrichment;

    Abstract : The fetus as a patient is a challenge. There are opportunities for early, sometimes life-saving procedures or there may be advantages in prenatal rather than postnatal intervention. This is the case in fetal hematopoietic cell (FHC) transplantation where conditions caused by a defect in blood cell formation may be life-threatening to the fetus. READ MORE

  4. 4. The Role of Lhx2 During Organogenesis : - Analysis of the Hepatic, Hematopoietic and Olfactory Systems

    Author : Åsa Kolterud; Leif Carlsson; Stefan Thor; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; LIM-homeobox gene; Lhx2; fetal liver; hepatic stellate cells; hematopoietic stem cells; septum transversum; self-renewal; odorant receptor genes; olfactory epithelium; olfactory sensory neuron; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : During embryonic development a variety of tissues and organs such as the lung, eye, and kidney are being formed. The generation of functional organs is regulated by reciprocal cell-cell interactions. Via the secretion of soluble molecules one type of cells affect the fate of their neighboring cells. READ MORE

  5. 5. Experimental models with specific approaches to augment human fetal liver cell engraftment

    Author : Pradeep B Patil; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Transplantation; Cell therapy; Animal models;

    Abstract : Experimental models with specific approaches to augment human fetal liver cell engraftment Pradeep Patil Department of Surgery, Institute of Clinical Sciences, Sahlgrenska Academy at University of Gothenburg Background: Liver disease is a common cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Orthotopic liver transplantation has so far been the only available therapy for patients with end-stage liver failure. READ MORE
