  1. 1. Regulation of Fibroblast Activity by Keratinocytes

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Daniel Nowinski; Uppsala universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : Surgery; conective tissue growth factor; interleukin-1; fibroblast; keratinocyte; wound healing; burns; Kirurgi; MEDICINE Surgery; MEDICIN Kirurgi;

    Abstract : In the healing of cutaneous wounds, paracrine communication between keratinocytes and fibroblasts regulates cell differentiation, proliferation and synthesis of extracellular matrix. Deficient epidermal coverage, as seen in burn-wounds, frequently results in hypertrophic scars. READ MORE

  2. 2. Fibroblast Growth Factor Receptor-1 Function in Vasculo- and Angiogenesis

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Peetra Magnusson; Uppsala universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : Pathology; FGF; FGFR-1; VEGFR-2; PDGFR-β; endothelial cells; embryonic stem cell; angiogenesis; hematopoiesis; Patologi; MEDICINE Morphology; cell biology; pathology Pathology; MEDICIN Morfologi; cellbiologi; patologi Patologi;

    Abstract : During development of the mammalian embryo, spatial and temporal expression of fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) and their cognate receptors are vital in the regulation of a number of patterning processes. Inappropriate or decreased expression leads to severe malformations and even embryonic death. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fibroblast growth factor-8 regulation of breast cancer cell growth

    University dissertation from Dept of Laboratory Medicine, Div of Tumour Biology, Lund University, Sweden

    Author : Emeli Nilsson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2010]
    Keywords : MEDICIN; MEDICINE;

    Abstract : Expression of fibroblast growth factor-8 (FGF-8) is increased in a large number of breast cancers. In in vitro and in vivo breast cancer models FGF-8 promotes growth, invasion and angiogenesis. READ MORE

  4. 4. Search for Biomarkers in ALS and Parkinson's Disease : Positron Emission Tomography and Cerebrospinal Fluid Studies

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Anders Johansson; Uppsala universitet.; Uppsala universitet.; [2009]
    Keywords : amyotrophic lateral sclerosis; ALS; Parkinson’s disease; cerebrospinal fluid; positron emission tomography; vascular endothelial growth factor; fibroblast growth factor 2; proteomics; Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry; deprenyl-D2; PIB; FDG; L-[β11C]-DOPA; MEDICINE Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine Internal medicine Neurology; MEDICIN Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin Invärtesmedicin Neurologi; Neurology; neurologi;

    Abstract : New biomarkers are needed to improve knowledge about pathophysiology, in order to provide earlier correct diagnosis and to follow disease progression of the neurodegenerative diseases amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Parkinson's disease (PD). The aim of this thesis was to find new biomarkers for these diseases. READ MORE

  5. 5. Role of Heparan Sulfate Structure in FGF-Receptor Interactions and Signaling

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Nadja Jastrebova; Uppsala universitet.; [2008]
    Keywords : Biochemistry; heparan sulfate; oligosaccharide; fibroblast growth factor; fibroblast growth factor signaling; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Heparan sulfate (HS) belongs to the glycosaminoglycan family of polysaccharides and is found attached to protein cores on cell surfaces and in the extracellular matrix. The HS backbone consists of alternating hexuronic acid and glucosamine units and undergoes a number of modification reactions creating HS chains with alternating highly and low modified domains, where high degree of modification correlates with high negative charge.
