1. Some Aspects of Resource and Behavioral Economics
Abstract : This thesis consists of four essays in resource and behavioral economics.Resource Extraction, Capital Accumulation and Time HorizonThe paper shows that relaxing the standard infinite horizon assumption can explain the patterns of exhaustible resource extraction and prices for the last century. 2. Seismic investigations and physical property studies of natural resources in Finland and Sweden : Efficient exploration of groundwater and mineral resources
Abstract : Natural resources, such as mineral deposits and groundwater in particular, are crucial for our society, as the world prepares itself for a smooth transition towards green technologies and decarbonization. Apart from extraction and use, innovative mineral exploration solutions are needed to complete the full value chain and to achieve the sustainable development goals. READ MORE

3. Hydrodynamic Modelling for a Point Absorbing Wave Energy Converter
Abstract : Surface gravity waves in the world’s oceans contain a renewable source of free power on the order of terawatts that has to this date not been commercially utilized. The division of Electricity at Uppsala University is developing a technology to harvest this energy. READ MORE

4. The Full Multigrid Method Applied to Turbulent Flow in Ventilated Enclosures Using Structured and Unstructured Grids
Abstract : Computational fluid dynamics require large computer resources and it is thus of paramount interest to have as efficient an algorithm as possible. This means that both an accurate discretization and a fast solver are required. In this work, we have used the full multigrid concept, which is a general and optimal solver. READ MORE

5. Adaptive Finite Element Methods for Compressible Two-Phase Flow
Abstract : In this thesis we develop, apply and analyse adaptive finite element methods with error control for compressible flow problems, focusing in particular on two-phase flow. The adaptive algorithms, aiming at quantitative error control with efficient use of computational resources, are based on a posteriori error estimates, where the error is estimated in terms of the computed solution, the local mesh-size and certain stability factors.
