  1. 1. Isomeric yield ratio measurements with JYFLTRAP : In quest of the angular momentum of the primary fragments

    Author : Vasileios Rakopoulos; Mattias Lantz; Stephan Pomp; Andreas Solders; José Benlliure; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; nuclear fission; angular momentum; fission fragments; isomeric yield ratios; fission products; scission; Penning trap.; Physics with specialization in Nuclear Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot kärnfysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, isomeric yield ratios of twenty nuclides produced in the fission of natU and 232Th by protons at 25-MeV and natU by high-energy neutrons were studied. The experiments were performed at the IGISOL-JYFLTRAP facility at the University of Jyväskylä. READ MORE

  2. 2. To fission or not to fission: 230Ac

    Author : Anna Kawecka; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Heavy Elements; r-process; CERN; Actinides; Radioactive Beams; ISOLDE; Fission; ISS;

    Abstract : Around half of the elements heavier than iron found in the Universe are believed to have been formed during the rapid neutron capture process (r-process). During the r-process, very neutron-rich nuclei are created through a series of neutron captures and β−-decay reactions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Isomeric yield ratios in nuclear fission

    Author : Zhihao Gao; Andreas Solders; Ali Al-Adili; Mattias Lantz; Stephan Pomp; Olivier Serot; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear fission; isomeric yield ratio; angular momentum; independent fission yield; ion guide; Applied Nuclear Physics; Tillämpad kärnfysik;

    Abstract : Isomeric yield ratios (IYR), referring to the relative yield of the high spin states of a nucleus to the total yield of all observed states, is an observable of nuclear fission that has the potential to improve our understanding of the fission dynamics. Apart from that, systematic observations of IYRs can also contribute to other areas, such as the validation of fission models, modelling of the r-process in stellar nucleosynthesis, studies of the antineutrino mixing angle, the safety of present-day nuclear reactors, and the design of advanced reactor systems. 4. 4. Nuclear fission and fusion in a random-walk model

    Author : Martin Albertsson; Matematisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fission; Brownian shape motion; energy partition; neutron multiplicity; kinetic energy; fusion; superheavy elements; quasifission; Fysicumarkivet A:2021:Albertsson;

    Abstract : This dissertation deals with theoretical descriptions of nuclear fission and synthesis of superheavy elements via fusion. The associated shape evolutions are treated using a random-walk approach where both the potential energy and the nuclear level density influence the dynamics. READ MORE

  5. 5. Measurements of Neutron-induced Nuclear Reactions for More Precise Standard Cross Sections and Correlated Fission Properties

    Author : Kaj Jansson; Cecilia Gustavsson; Stephan Pomp; Alexander Prokofiev; Ali Al-Adili; Fanny Farget; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cross Section; Fission; Neutron-induced reactions; Simulation; VERDI; Fysik med inriktning mot tillämpad kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Applied Nuclear Physics;

    Abstract : It is difficult to underestimate the importance of neutron cross section standards in the nuclear data field. Accurate and precise standards are prerequisites for measuring neutron cross sections. Two different projects are presented here with the aim of improving on neutron standards. READ MORE
