  1. 1. Properties of Activated Sludge Flocs

    Author : Britt-Marie Wilen; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; floc strength; aerobic microbial activity; reflocculation; dissolved oxygen concentration; settling; deflocculation; filamentous microorganisms; shear forces; floc size; activated sludge;

    Abstract : The quality of the effluent from activated sludge treatment plants is highly dependent on the efficiency of the solid-liquid separation process. The aim of this thesis was to study (i) the effects of dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration on effluent turbidity and flocculation, as well as on the settling properties of activated sludge, for both short term and long term scales, and (ii) the influence of aerobic microbial activity on the stability of activated sludge flocs. 2. 2. Flocculation with Polyelectrolytes in Latex and Microbial Systems

    Author : Leif Eriksson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; floc strength; shear sensitivity; fractal dimension; floc structure; patch flocculation; adhesion; bridging; flocculation; charge compensation; adsorption; ionic strength; molecular weight; charge density; Cationic polyelectrolytes; latex; bacteria; activ; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Adsorption of cationic polyelectrolytes onto polystyrene latices was studied as function of polymer chemical composition and molecular weight, polymer and surface charge density and ionic strength. The ratio between polymer charges and surface charges was close to one when distances between polymer and surface charges were equal. READ MORE

  3. 3. Dissolved Air Flotation and Microscreening for Particle Separation in Wastewater Treatment

    Author : Michael Cimbritz; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi; disc filtration; microscreening; DAF; wastewater treatment; particle separation; Chemical technology and engineering; particle size analysis; drum filtration;

    Abstract : Particle separation is one of the fundamental processes in wastewater treatment and a good understanding of the basic separation mechanisms ? sedimentation, flotation and filtration ? is critical in the design of wastewater treatment systems. Upgrading of treatment plants for enhanced primary treatment and effluent polishing are current examples of applications where effective, high-rate separation methods are of interest. READ MORE

  4. 4. Disperson and Flocculation in a Dry Mat-Forming Process

    Author : Robert Rundqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The absorption cores in disposable nappies, incontinence pads and female hygiene products are manufactured by a dry mat-forming process. Cellulose fibers and super-absorbing particles are suspended in air and blown onto a forming wheel on which the cores are formed. READ MORE

  5. 5. Fibre suspension flocculation under simulated forming conditions

    Author : Huawei Yan; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : A flow loop system for study of fibre flocculation insuspensions has been developed. The system is designed tosimulate the flow conditions in a paper machine headbox. It isequipped with a radial distributor feeding a step diffuser pipepackage, after which the flow is contracted in a 2-D nozzle. READ MORE
