  1. 1. Flocculation with Polyelectrolytes in Latex and Microbial Systems

    Author : Leif Eriksson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; floc strength; shear sensitivity; fractal dimension; floc structure; patch flocculation; adhesion; bridging; flocculation; charge compensation; adsorption; ionic strength; molecular weight; charge density; Cationic polyelectrolytes; latex; bacteria; activ; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Adsorption of cationic polyelectrolytes onto polystyrene latices was studied as function of polymer chemical composition and molecular weight, polymer and surface charge density and ionic strength. The ratio between polymer charges and surface charges was close to one when distances between polymer and surface charges were equal. READ MORE

  2. 2. Flocculation in a stirred square tank

    Author : Kalle Pelin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LDA; square tank; flocculation; particle sizing; CFD; modelling; sliding grid; fluid dynamics;

  3. 3. Flocculation of Allochthonous Dissolved Organic Matter – a Significant Pathway of Sedimentation and Carbon Burial in Lakes

    Author : Eddie von Wachenfeldt; Lars Tranvik; David Bastviken; John Downing; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; flocculation; dissolved organic carbon; allochthonous; carbon sequestration; carbon cycle; boreal lakes; Freshwater ecology; Limnisk ekologi;

    Abstract : Inland waters receive substantial amounts of organic carbon from adjacent watersheds. Only about half of the carbon exported from inland waters reaches the oceans, while the remainder is lost en route. This thesis identifies flocculation as an important and significant fate of carbon in the boreal landscape. READ MORE

  4. 4. Modern Artificial Recharge Plants : Combining chemical flocculation with aquifer recharge

    Author : Kristofer Hägg; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Natural organic matter NOM ; Chemical flocculation; Ultrafiltration membrane; Disc filtration; Managed Aquifer Recharge;

    Abstract : Water supply security is increasingly becoming a challenge worldwide. Surface waters, which are often used for drinking water production, have experienced an increase in natural organic matter (NOM) and frequency of algae blooms. Water quantity is also an issue due to increasing populations and potable water demand. READ MORE

  5. 5. Microsieving in municipal wastewater treatment : Chemically enhanced primary and tertiary treatment

    Author : Janne Väänänen; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : coagulation; wastewater treatment; flocculation; microsieving; control; primary treatment; tertiary treatment; coagulation; control; flocculation; microsieving; municipal wastewater treatment; primary treatment; tertiary treatment;

    Abstract : Municipal wastewater treatment plants are constantly forced to make improvements. The main objectives are to reduce energy consumption, to increase the treatment capacity and to improve the effluent water quality. Microsieves in combination with chemical pretreatment can potentially fulfil these objectives. READ MORE
