  1. 1. Telomere analysis of normal and neoplastic hematopoietic cells : studies focusing on fluorescence in situ hybridization and flow cytometry

    Author : Magnus Hultdin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomedicine; telomere; telomerase; fluorescence in situ hybridization; flow cytometry; flow-FISH; replication timing; chronic lymphocytic leukemia; immunoglobulin gene; prognosis; Biomedicin; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; Medical Cell Biology; medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : The telomeres are specialized structures at the end of the chromosomes composed of the repeated DNA sequence (TTAGGG)n and specific proteins bound to the DNA. The telomeres protect the chromosomes from degradation and end to end fusions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Improvements of the Bromodeoxyuridine-DNA Flow Cytometry Method for the Study of Cell Proliferation

    Author : Maria C Johansson; Bröstcancer-genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; head and neck cancer; [3H]thymidine; energy transfer; cell cycle; xenografted tumours; cultured cells; potential doubling time; labelling index; DNA synthesis time; cell proliferation; growth kinetics; Bromodeoxyuridine; DNA flow cytometry; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology;

    Abstract : Potential doubling time (Tpot), DNA synthesis time (TS), and labelling index (LI) are fundamental growth kinetics parameters in clinical and experimental cancer research, which may be of further practical importance regarding prognosis and treatment prediction of cancer. They can be measured by bromodeoxyuridine(BrdUrd)/flow cytometry (FCM) methods, where BrdUrd, an analogue of thymidine, is incorporated into DNA and quantified simultaneously with the DNA content. 3. 3. Statistical Modelling of Cell Cycle Dynamics Analysis and Interpretation of BrdUrd DNA FCM-Derived Data

    Author : Sara Larsson Lönn; Matematisk statistik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; G2 phase duration; DNA replication; flow cytometry; Natural science; Naturvetenskap; S phase duration; DNA distribution; branching processes; cell cycle kinetics;

    Abstract : It it of great importance to increase the knowledge of various cell cycle kinetic parameters and the objective of this thesis is to use stochastic models to interpret Bromodeoxyuridine (BrdUrd) DNA Flow Cytometry (FCM) derived data in order to estimate such parameters. The cell cycle is the process of growth and division that is essential for an organism to increase in size. READ MORE

  4. 4. Static and flow cytometry for tumor DNA analysis

    Author : Olle Stål; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The analysis of cellular DNA content in human tumors has shown to be of prognostic importance. The techniques used involve measurements in slide preparations by absorption cytophotometry and static cytofluorometry as well as the analysis of cell suspensions by flow cytometry. READ MORE

  5. 5. Induction and repair of clustered DNA damage sites after exposure to ionizing radiation

    Author : Andris Abramenkovs; Bo Stenerlöw; Peter O'Neill; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NHEJ; DSB repair; clustered DNA damage; DNA repair; DNA-PKcs; HSCS; Ra-223; ionizing radiation; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : The mechanisms that maintain genomic stability safeguard cells from constant DNA damage produced by endogenous and external stressors. Therefore, this thesis aimed to specifically address questions regarding the requirement and involvement of DNA repair proteins in the repair of various types of radiation-induced DNA damage.
