  1. 1. Tilted Foils Nuclear Spin Polarization and Measurement with Coulomb Excitation

    Author : Hans Törnqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tilted; Foils; Polarization; Excitation; Coulomb; Nuclear; Spin;

    Abstract : Developing new experimental tools is essential to expand the possibilites of probing the structure of atomic nuclei. The better the currently known properties of nuclei can be manipulated, the more information can be extracted from data collected in nuclear reaction experiments. READ MORE

  2. 2. Tilted Foils Nuclear Spin Polarization at REX-ISOLDE

    Author : Hans Törnqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; beta-NMR; ISOLDE; tilted foils; particle scattering; post-acceleration; REX-ISOLDE; nuclear spin polarization; HIE-ISOLDE;

    Abstract : This thesis will explain and summarize my work and involvement in experiments aimed at producing nuclear spin polarization of post-accelerated beams of ions with the tilted-foils technique at the REX-ISOLDE linear accelerator at CERN. Polarizing the nuclear spin of radioactive beams in particular may provide access to observables which may be difficult to obtain otherwise. READ MORE

  3. 3. Weakening of Crack-tip Singularity due to Buckling of Thin Bodies under Tension

    Author : Li Chong; Hållfasthetslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Thin foils; Fracture; Buckling;

    Abstract : When thin sheets containing a crack is subjected to tensile loading in the direction perpendicular to the crack surface out of plane displacement will occur in areas surrounding the crack. By this the stress state in the vicinity of the crack tip is changed and leads to a weaker crack tip singularity than the r-1/2 by linear elastic fracture mechanics. READ MORE

  4. 4. Fluid structure interactiontesting, modelling and development of Passive Adaptive Composite foils

    Author : Laura Marimon Giovannetti; UK University of Southampton; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : High performance foiling catamarans are one of the fastest growing sectors in the sailing and sport industries, allowing athletes to perform in extremely fast and spectacular boats. These boats fly above the water with the aid of foils that not only provide horizontal side-force to counterbalance the aerodynamic forces from the sails, but also deliver vertical force that supports some or all of the mass of the boat. 5. 5. Cavitation Mechanisms Related to Erosion Studies on Kaplan Turbines, Foils, and Propellers

    Author : Mikael Grekula; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cavitation; experimental studies; cavitation erosion; cavitation mechanisms; hydrodynamics; cavitation noise; cavitation assessment;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis work is to study cavitation behaviours related to erosion. The focus is on processes of observable scale, i.e. the process prior to the micro scale level at which the actual damage is generated. READ MORE
