Abstract : Roughly one third of all the food produced worldwide goes to waste. The global goals for sustainable development set by the United Nations in 2015 call for a 50% reduction of food waste per capita by 2030. We thus face several major food waste challenges that need academic and practical attention. READ MORE

  2. 2. Integration of logistics network in local food supply chains

Abstract : The demand for locally produced food is increasing as global food supply system has considerably affected the confidence of consumers by increasing tonne-kilometres, food safety risk, environmental impact, and disconnecting local food producers and consumers. However, local food suppliers are not in the position to compete with large scale food supply systems due to high logistics costs. READ MORE

  4. 4. Farm-based technologies for management of risks from irrigation with wastewater-polluted sources in Cochabamba, Bolivia

Author : Luis Fernando Perez Mercado; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []

Abstract : Wastewater irrigation is a global practice that allows reusing water and nutrients in agriculture, but also poses risks of introducing pathogens/pollutants into agricultural systems and food. In order to manage these risks, on-farm measures can be implemented as barriers along the pathway that pathogens/pollutants must follow to reach the population/place at risk, in cases where treatment plants are not a viable option. Abstract : An increased understanding of the world’s limited resources and the negative environmental impacts connected to solid waste management has in recent years increased interest in separate collection and treatment of organic waste in many parts of the world. As an example, increased biological treatment of organic waste is an explicit goal within the Swedish national solid waste management strategy (SEPA, 2006) and the national environmental objectives state that 35% of all organic household waste should be treated biologically by 2010 (SEPA, 2007).
