  1. 1. Stem cell function and organ development : analysis of Lhx2 function in hematopoietic stem cells and eye development

    Author : Lina Dahl; Leif Carlsson; Jan-Ingvar Jönsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Lhx2; hematopoietic system; hematopoietic stem cell; progenitor; embryonic stem cell; embryoid body; eye development; forebrain; eye field transcription factor; Molecular medicine genetics and pathology ; Molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; molekylär medicin genetik och patologi ; molecular medicine  genetics and pathology ;

    Abstract : When a multicellular organism suffers damages to tissues/organs it heals itself by either substituting the lost cellular matrix by scar formation or by regenerating the lost tissue. Regeneration likely occurs by a recapitulation of the developmental process that formed the organ. READ MORE

  2. 2. Specification of Dorsal and Intermediate Telencephalic Character

    Author : Matthew Marklund; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; telencephalon; forebrain; dorsoventral patterning; WNT; FGF; RA; retinoid-mediated signaling; development; specification; cortex; striatal; intermediate; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : The telencephalon is the most highly evolved region of the vertebrate central nervous system (CNS). The major structures of the telencephalon - the cortex and basal ganglia – derive from the dorsally positioned pallium and the ventrally positioned subpallium, respectively. READ MORE

  3. 3. Anatomical, neurochemical and behavioural consequences of immunotoxin lesions of the basal forebrain cholinergic system

    Author : Giampiero Leanza; Neurobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neural transplantation; reinnervation; axon growth; functional sparing; memory; learning; cortex; hippocampus; immunolesion; acetylcholine; basal forebrain; rat; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : The cholinergic hypothesis of geriatric memory dysfunction suggests that the learning and memory deficits representing the cardinal symptoms of dementia in the aged and in patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease may be attributable to a decline in the function of the cholinergic projection systems of the basal forebrain. Although many studies have addressed the issue of a causal relationship between cholinergic hypofunction and cognitive disturbance, analyses of the functional role of the basal forebrain cholinergic neuronal systems in the brain have so far been hampered by the lack of an efficient and specific cholinergic neurotoxin. 5. 5. Electrophysiological and molecular diversity of forebrain interneurons

    Author : Carolina Bengtsson Gonzales; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Despite their low abundance, telencephalic interneurons demonstrate a great amount of molecular and electrophysiological heterogeneity, suggesting that they exhibit different functions within the circuit. Interneurons are commonly classified into distinct cell types based on their morphology, intrinsic electrophysiological properties, connectivity or molecular profile. READ MORE
