  1. 1. Protonmotive coupling of energy conversion processes in photosyntetic bacteria : studies on membrane energization and photophosphorylation capacity

    Author : Beston F. Nore; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fotosyntes;

    Abstract : This work is a study on the membrane-bound inorganic pyrophosphatase and other energylinkedenzymes in the chromatophores from the photosynthetic bacterium Rhodospirillum rubrum.The membrane-bound inorganic pyrophosphatase is functionally similar to the well-known FiF0-ATP synthase. Abstract : In nature, sessile plants have to adapt to their environment and to the never ending changes they are exposed to. They do so mainly by proteomic and metabolomic changes. In all cells, there are complex networks of auxiliary proteins that are responsible for quality control of all the cell's proteins. READ MORE

    Abstract : The key challenge within artificial photosynthesis is achieving efficient electro- or photo-driven water oxidation catalysis, a necessary process to supply the protons for the reduction reactions, thereby enabling solar fuel production. To facilitate efficient water (photo)electrolysis for solar fuel production, this thesis focuses on two aspects: 1) elucidating the O-O bond formation mechanism and developing efficient, stable, and economical water oxidation catalysts (WOCs); 2) exploring stable, low-cost, light-absorbing photoanode materials that have suitable band structures and excellent charge diffusion properties. Abstract : According to previous research, students show difficulties in understanding photosynthesis and respiration, and basic ecological concepts like energy flow in ecosystems. There are successful teaching units accomplished in this area and many of them can be described as inquiry-based teaching. READ MORE
