  1. 1. Experimental studies on fracture healing. Biological and biomechanical aspects

    Author : Hans Mark; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : fracture; intramembranous; endochondral; ossification; neovascularization; fracture fixation; fracture stability;

    Abstract : Considerable advances have been made in the knowledge regarding fracture healing and treatment duringrecent decades. Nevertheless, in 5-10 per cent of fractures, there are healing complications leading to complextreatment conditions, discomfort for patients and considerable costs. READ MORE

  2. 2. Malleus fracture : experimental and clinical aspects

    Author : Anders Niklasson; Krister Tano; Magnus Von Unge; Preben Homøe; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; malleus fracture middle ear human temporal bone laser doppler vibrometry; Oto-Rhino-Laryngology; oto-rhino-laryngologi;

    Abstract : Background: Patients with malleus fractures are described as rare in the literature. The cause of these fractures are most commonly trauma and digital manipulation of the ear canal, while in some cases the causes are unknown. READ MORE

  3. 3. Following the mevalonate pathway to bone heal alley

    Author : Björn Skoglund; Lars Nordsletten; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Bone screws; coated materials; biocompatible; chemistry; diphosphonates; pharmacology; Equipment failure analysis methods; Femoral fractures; drug therapy; fracture fixation; instrumentation; Fracture fixation; fracture healing; drug effects; simvastatin; tibial fractures; physiopathologyial fractures; surgery; Pharmaceutical chemistry; Farmaceutisk kemi; Other veterinary medicine; Övrig veterinärmedicin;

    Abstract : The mevalonate pathway is an important biosynthetic pathway, found in all cells of virtually all known pro- as well as eukaryotic organisms. This thesis is an investigation into the use of two drugs, originally developed for different applications, but both affecting the mevalonate pathway, in to models of fracture repair. READ MORE

  4. 4. Old people with femoral neck fracture : delirium, malnutrition and surgical methods - an intervention program

    Author : Birgitta Olofsson; Olle Svensson; Yngve Gustafson; Bengt Borssén; Anna-Karin Edberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; delirium; hip fracture; older people; orthopaedics; internal fixation; arthroplasty cognitive impairment; dementia; nursing; rehabilitation; femoral neck fracture; RCT; intervention; geriatric team; malnutrition; nurses; Orthopaedics; Ortopedi;

    Abstract : Hip fracture is a global and a growing public health problem. More women than men sustain hip fractures, the incidence increases exponentially with age and mean age is above 80. About one third of hip-fracture patients suffer from dementia and are prone to develop acute confusional state (delirium). READ MORE

  5. 5. Distal femur fracture in the elderly patient

    Author : Martin Paulsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Distal femur fracture; Geriatric patients; Weight-bearing; Recovery; Secondary displacement; Minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis MIPO ; Fracture alignment; Fracture classification;

    Abstract : Studies on the epidemiology of distal femur fractures show a vast increase in low-energy trauma-associated fractures in older ages. Age-related changes in bones lead to loss of bone matrix and increased porosity, which entails an increased risk for fractures and different fracture patterns than in younger individuals. READ MORE
