1. Free Ensemble Improvisation
Abstract : The aim of this doctoral project has been to study so-called non-idiomatic improvisation in ensembles consisting of two or three musicians who play together without any restrictions regarding style or genre and without having predetermined what is to be played or how they should play. The background to this thesis has been the author’s own free improvising, which he has pursued since 1974, and the questions that have arisen whilst music-making. READ MORE

2. Numerical investigation of the flow and instabilities at part-load and speed-no-load in an axial turbine
Abstract : Global renewable energy requirements rapidly increase with the transition to a fossil-free society. As a result, intermittent energy resources, such as wind- and solar power, have become increasingly popular. However, their energy production varies over time, both in the short- and long term. 3. Fossil Free or Not - That is the Question
Abstract : This is an evaluation of Jämtland County’s ability to achieve its climate targets to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions with 10% annually, and to become fossil fuel free 2030. There is a risk that the target to become fossil fuel-free, relying primarily on outtake of forest biomass, contradicts with the target in the UN Paris Agreement to keep the global temperature increase below 1. 4. Effects of free-stream turbulence and three-dimensional roughness on boundary layer transition
Abstract : External disturbances such as free-stream turbulence (FST), and isolated three-dimensional roughness are strong disturbance sources to the laminar boundary layers (BLs), which can lead to a rapid transition to turbulence. The transition process eventuates to increase in skin-friction coefficient and heat transfer rate and hence, both of the aforementioned disturbance sources have practical importance. READ MORE

5. Potential Flow Panel Methods for the Calculation of Free-surface Flows with Lift
Abstract : Two non-linear Rankine-source panel methods are developed and implemented in the same computer code. The first method uses a four-point upwind operator on the free-surface to compute the velocity derivatives and to enforce the radiation condition while the second method uses an analytical expression for the velocity derivatives and a collocation point shift one panel upstream to prevent upstream waves.
